BIG BALCRAIG FARM TOP FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH  

The Borderway Sale Centre was once again full to capacity for the September dairy sale with 415 dairy cattle sold.  There was a diverse offering of dairy cattle with several breeds catalogued and exceptional group of Holstein cattle topped at £2650 to average £2030

Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to the Big Balcraig herd of the Wadsworth family from Newton Stewart for the second consecutive month.  This wonderful group of twelve heifers averaged £2125 with the top heifer sired by Alladin P selling for £2650. 

The Bailie family from Hillhead of Covington sold ten cows and heifers to average £2300 and topped at £2500 for Covington Skeletor Duchess who was sired by Boghill Glamour Skeletor.

The Wilsons from Wreaywood sold a tremendous group of cows to average £2115 and topped the cow trade at £2350 for Wreaywood Brody Nancy.

A well bred group of pedigree Jersey heifers from the Grahams Family Dairy averaged £1581 and topped at £1750 on two occasions.

The Woods family from Townfoot Farm near Dalston held the first sale to disperse their Holstein Friesian herd.  This impressive group of productive cows topped at £2450 for a third lactation cow giving 42kgs.  This fine group of cows averaged £1585

Another dispersal that was incorporated in this months sale was the Jerriestown herd owned by the Hewson family who farm near Blackford.  This well bred group of cows and heifers topped at £2250 for a recently calved heifer with the average coming to £1621.

Cumrue Farming Partners sold 52 spring calved Irish Friesian – Jersey cross bred cows that were still open but running with the bull.  They topped at £1250 for a Jersey cross bred heifer. 

Buyers had a fine selection of Holstein In Calf heifers to choose from and they topped at £1680 of a daughter of Mr Stone-front Reeve Red who was consigned by Ed & Linda Wilson from Petteril Hill Farm.  Holstein In Calf heifers averaged £1496

There was a strong group of Fleckvieh and Danish Red cross bred In Calf heifers consigned by several farms.  These heifers were in demand and topped at £1600 to average £1547.

45 Holstein bulling heifers were consigned by a numerous breeding establishments to average £865 with the top price heifer selling for £1450.  She was consigned by the Airey family from Carnforth and the heifer was Newcroft Attico Reana.  

The sale finished with 23 Irish Friesian – Jersey cross bred heifers that topped at £750 for several animals to average £521.
