On Thursday 7th September Harrison & Hetherington held its Lazonby & Carlisle show and sale of North of England Mule Shearling Gimmers. A catalogued entry of 3000 shearlings went under the hammer to meet a lovely trade throughout. Run after run of quality sheep fell under the hammer to average £175.23p plus £21. Before the sale the show took place, this year it was judged by father and son duo Graham and Scott Wetherall, High Buildings who awarded first prize & Champion pen to GG & MA Harrison, Sceugh Farm who went on to sell for £250. His run of 253 averaged £226.03 however topping the sale was a pen of 10 from M Telford, Edenlin selling for £270. The reserve Champion was awarded to JJ & E Lawson, Hundith who went on to sell for £215. A total of 500 sheep sold for £200 or more. Leaner sheep did prove harder to cash however vendors seemed more than happy with the day’s trading with Borderway matching and surpassing other outlets.
