Carlisle Latter Fair Mule Gimmer Lamb Show & Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Thursday 14th September Harrison and Hetherington held their annual ‘Latter Fair Show & Sale’ of 3600 Mule gimmer lambs within Borderway Auction Mart.

A huge ringside of buyers were present, with a sale average of £126.58 (+£5.52) was achieved, leaving all vendors ecstatic with the days trading. Classes for all lambs were described as the dearest seen to date, with many more lambs needed to satisfy demand.

Pen after pen of sheep went under the hammer, with may being easily £15-20 on the year

Prior to the sale, the annual show took place, which was kindly sponsored by Dodd & Co and Capontree Vet.

The two judges Mr Turney and Mr Story had the unenviable task of judging the unrivaled line up of Mule gimmer lambs. The pair were also supported by the referee for the day, Mr Ridley, and after much deliberation the Champion pen came from Messrs JW Smith-Jackson, Hightown who later sold to the top price of £340. This run of 104 head sold to average an incredible £178.96. The second prize pen also came from the same farm and sold for 210.

Messrs Foster, Coombe Crag won third prize and sold for £215, with their run of 168 averaged £140.43.

Messrs James, Midtodhills sold an incredible run of 297 to average £136.20. Messrs Ridley, Woodhall sold 202 lambs to average £147.68.

A big thank you must go to all the Vendors for your continued support which ensured the Carlisle Latter Fair Mule gimmer lamb sale remains on the tip of everyone’s tongue.
