Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when
4524 sheep consisting of 2007 Prime lambs, 1005 Cast sheep and 1512 Store lambs.
Topping the prime lambs at £190 was a 52kg Beltex cross lamb from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside which sold to Dowdings Butchers, Appleby. The same home also sold 53kg lambs to make £188 also selling to Dowdings Butchers.
Topping at 392.5p/kg were a pen of four 40kg Beltex cross lambs which made £157 from Messrs Dodd, Skylin, Temple Sowerby, with this home also selling a pair of 40kg lambs to make £155.50 (388.8p/kg)
Messrs Richardson, Croft House, Ravenstonedale sold 45kg Beltex cross lambs to make £170 (377.8p/kg).
Messrs Sutcliffe, Church Farm, Carlton in Cleveland sold a pen of ten 40kg lambs to make £155.50 (388.8p/kg) with this home also selling 53kg lambs to make £168.
Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of twelve 45kg Beltex cross lambs to make £169 (375.6p/kg). This home also sold 52kg lambs to make £164.
Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill Farm, Workington sold 47kg lambs to make £164.
Dan Stainthorpe, Low Grange Farm, Cleveland sold a pen of five 43kg lambs to make £160 (372.1p/kg) with 55kg lambs also making £160 from this home.
Messrs Armstrong, Moorriggs, Penrith sold a pen of four 41kg Beltex cross lambs to make £155.50 (379.3p/kg.
Messrs Armstrong, Crossfell House, Milburn sold a pen of twenty one 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £156 (371.4p/kg).
Dan Stainthorpe, Cleveland sold 53kg Texel cross lambs to £159, with a pen of seven 48kg Texel cross lambs making £153 also from this home.
Mule lambs sold to £130 for a pen from Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth with another pen of ten 52kg Mules making £125.50 also from this home. These vendors also topped the Mules at 244.6p/kg for a pen of 46kg Mules which made £112.50.
The figures really do speak for themselves week in week out, here at Kirkby Stephen with an SQQ average of 276.53p/kg and an overall sale average of 271.2p/kg (£120.82) being achieved.
36 pens and 129 lambs sold between £150 and £190.
35 pens and 174 lambs sold between 340-392.5p/kg
All classes and weights were a sharper trade with fresh buyers in attendance resulting in first cross commercial bred lambs 41-44kg taking the biggest lift.
