Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their catalogued sale of 3,500 Registered and Unregistered Swaledale Ewes, Gimmer Shearlings and Gimmer Lambs.
Topping the sale at £500 were a pen of five ewes from Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm, Barnard Castle which were bought by Messrs Harker, ~Murton Hall, Appleby.
The pre show was judged by Mr P Handley, Gunnerfleet who awarded the first prize pen of ewes and overall championship to a pen of ten 3 crop ewes from Messrs Wilson, Arngill House.
Next making £280 were a strong pen of ten 2-3crop ewes from Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras which sold to Messrs Capstick, Whicham Hall Farm, Millom. This same home also sold another pen of ten 2-3 crop ewes to make £195 selling to Messrs Tunstall, Highfield House, Brough.
Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm sold a pen of five ewes to make £220 selling to Messrs Reed, The Knarr, Slaggyford.
This same home sold a pen of twenty ewes for £180 selling to Messrs Ben, Low Mill, Mungrisedale, with another pen of fifteen selling for £180 to Messrs Brown, Asby Hall, Great Asby.
The consignment of 105 ewes from Valley Farm sold to average £117.14
Messrs Alderson, Barras Farm, Barras sold a pen of ten ewes to make £190 selling to Messrs Metcalf, Lambshillock, Aberdeenshire.
Messrs Hutchinson, old Spital Farm sold a pen of five ewes to make £185 selling to Messrs Greenwood, Newlands Farm, Skipton.
The first placed pen of Swaledale shearlings was awarded to a pen of ten from Messrs Alderson, Barras Farm, Barras which went on to sell for £210 to Messrs Metcalfe, Aberdeenshire.
A ewe sale average of £127.90 was achieved. Good strong well marked ewes were still in strong demand regularly selling between £150-£170, smaller, plainer and lighter marked sheep met more resistance on the year.

Winning to best run of 60 or more ewes and shearlings was Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras.
Swaledale Gimmer lambs topped at £118 for the first placed pen of ten from Messrs Calvert, Hoggarths Farm which sold to Messrs Woof, Leyburn. Messrs Calvert also sold a pen of lambs to £110 again selling to Messrs Woof.
Messrs Beckwith, New Hall Farm sold a pen of twelve to make £115 selling to EMS engineering, North Stainmore.
