PRIME CATTLE: A much smaller entry of only 44 prime steers and heifers forward at Borderway’s weekly sale of Primestock Sale. Trade remains firm with best quality stock shining through. Top overall was a 785kg Limousin cross from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm Cockermouth selling to £2327.53 purchased by Morgan Helliwell. Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold two steers at 743kg and 764kgs to £2277.30 and £2272.90 purchased by Mr Eric Hall and Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. A Blue Grey from Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close run of 8 peaked at £1699.28 for 695kgs purchased by Steven Wilson butchers’ shop, Corby Hill. Top price per kilo of 307.5p went to Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith for 645kgs and purchased by A & D Meats. Heifers peaked at £2208.54 for 709kgs Limousin cross from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby purchased by R & JP Mulholland Butchers, Great Orton, Carlisle the same vendors sold 683kgs to £2052.42 and Messrs Harrington, Hosket Hill, Carlisle sold 668kgs to £2027.38 purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers. Top Overall Pence Per Kilo of 315.5p went to Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton with a 533kg Limousin cross again purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers shop.

PRIME BULLS: A good show of 84 Prime bulls forward selling to a sharper trade on the week, less weight overall but plenty good quality bulls about.  Top overall was an 814kg Limousin from Sean Mitchell, Grassknop, Penrith achieving £2503.05 purchased by A & D Meats.  Messrs Richardson, Whitehead Brow, Wigton sold 759kgs to £2379.47 and Messrs Tudhope, High Parsonbridge, Wigton sold 784kg to £2159.92.  Maine Anjou bulls sold to £2276.95 for 800 kgs from Messrs Houldey, Kirtleton House, Lockerbie and 748kg British Blue crosses to £2015.86 from Messrs Brough, Old Rectory, Carlisle.  An Aberdeen Angus weighing 760kgs from Messrs Lawson, South Farm, Newcastle sold to £1934.20 purchased by AR Livestock Services.  Top pence per kilo overall went to the aforementioned from Messrs Richardson, Whitehead Brow at 313.00.

Black and white bred bulls topped at £1666.52 for a 723kg Fleckvieh, £1613.21 for a 706kg Montbelairde both consigned by Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown.  Holstein to £1472.52 for a 653kg from Stenries Farm, Carrutherstown, Dumfries.  Top price per kilo of 230.60 went to the 728kg Fleckvieh from South Lambhill and Holstein Friesian to 229.50 for 537kg from Messrs Jackson, Skelton Wood End, Penrith

CAST COWS: One of the largest shows of cast cows and stock bulls with 461 forward to a full ringside of buyers ensuring the better end of cows would be sharper but the plainer cows slightly less.

PRIME SHEEP:  Another fabulous show of 2782 prime lambs and 325 cast sheep were forward at Borderway on Monday, these were shown to another great ringside with 10 buyers operating for 27 outlets this week , with all classes meeting a premium here in Borderway. An overall average of 268p SQQ of 274p was achieved which levels at an amazing £120.45 per head , unheard of in October,

Leading the sale at £180 was a tremendous single lamb for Tom and Julia Airey, New Grange, Dearham which was purchased by Lancashire Direct Halal.

Top per kilo was 387p paid for Texel x lambs from Brian Strong, Grapes Barn, Caldbeck which were purchased by Mr Andrew Dawson.

Suffolks sold to £149 for heavies from M/s Longlands, Tone Hall, Hexham who were joined by a strong continent from the east of Borderway , M/s Parsons,  Slealands , Longtown lead Suffolks per kilo at 279ppk.

Mule lambs were in great demand selling to £134 for heavies from M/s Grieve Whiteside, Hexham and to a lofty 268p for a pen of 13 from M/a Hoodless, Highfield, Penrith
