Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 3371 sheep were forward consisting of 2,720 prime lamb and 651 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £200 was a 71kg Texel lamb from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Darlington.

This same home also sold another pen of eleven Texel cross lambs to make £170.

Topping at 386p/kg were a pen of four 43kg Beltex cross lambs which made £166 from Messrs Foster, Fordham Farm, York.

This same home also sold a pen of six 41kg Beltex cross lambs to make £158 (385.4p/kg), and also sold 49kg lambs to make £165 (336.7p/kg)

Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport sold a pen of five 41kg lambs to make £158 (385.4p/kg with another pen of five 40kg lambs making £149 (372.5p/kg) and a pen of eight 40kg makings £148 (370p/kg) and a pen of eight 39kg making £147 )376.9p/kg) all from Low House.

Messrs Burbridge, Park Farm, Stamford sold a pen of four 37kg lambs to make £140 (378.4p/kg)

Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby sold 42kg lambs to make £157 (373.8p/kg)

Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth, Great Asby sold a pen of 39kg lambs to make £145 (371.8p/kg).

Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Bassenthwaite sold a pen of 43kg Rouge cross lambs to make £157.

Heavy lambs were good to sell with Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside selling a pen of three 51kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £168 (329.4p/kg)

Messrs Wills, Fawcett, Park Farm, Dufton sold 61kg lambs to make £165.

Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall Farm, Keswick sold a pen of three 60kg Texel cross lambs to make £164 with another pen on three 52kg lambs making £160 (308p/kg), a pen of 50kg making £155 (310p/kg) and a pen of 49kg selling for £151 from this home (308p/kg).

Suffolk cross lambs sold to £136 and 309.1p/kg for a pen four 44kg lambs from Messrs Skelton, Low House.

Mule lambs sold to £128 from Messrs Wills, Fawcett, Park Farm, Dufton.

A pen of twelve 44kg Mule lambs sold to make £106.50 (242p/kg) from Messrs Wharton, Keisley Farm, Murton.

Swaledale lambs sold to £108 from Messrs Birkbeck, High Stennerskeugh.

Blackfaced lambs sold to £106 and 246.5p/kg for a pen of 43kg lambs from Messrs Musgrave, Cardew Hall, Carlisle.

Another wonderful SQQ average of 271.42p/kg and an overall sale average of 265.18p/kg for 2720 lambs was achieved.

Cast sheep topped at £185 for a cast Beltex ram from Messrs Chester, Grassgill Lodge, Soulby.

Texel ewes sold to £170 from Messrs Hastwell, The Buildings Farm, Kaber.

Mule ewes sold to £139 from Messrs Allison, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle with this home selling Texel cross ewes to make £160.

Swaledale ewes sold to £70 for a pen seven from Messrs Pedley, Yore House, Sedbergh.

All classes of cast sheep were shaper on the week with some types being £10 up.
