Broughton Annual Herdwick and Swaledale Show & Sale

On Tuesday 3rd October, Harrison and Hetherington held their Annual show and sale of Swaledale and Herdwick rams, within Broughton Auction Mart.

HERDWICK: The Herdwick show was ably judged by Sam Hodgson, Glencoyne Farm, Glenridding and Nicky Race, Penny Hill Farm, Holmrook who awarded the Overall Champion to a shearling ram from Messrs R Wilkinson & R Tennant, Gatesgarth Farm, Buttermere which went on to top the sale at 2200gns to the Judge Sam Hodgson. Reserve Champion was awarded to an aged ram from R Wrathall Ltd, Cockley Beck, Seathwaite which sold to 1100gns to J & JL Bland, Yew Tree, Borrowdale.

A good clearance rate of 83% for 136 rams sold to average 450gns, also seeing a good ringside of buyers.

SWALEDALE: Judging the Swaledale section was Mrs Wilson, Far End Farm, Bootle who awarded the Overall Champion to Messrs Capstick, Fellside with their aged ram which sold for £700. A further two rams also sold to £700 from Messrs Walton, Low Kinmont.

Topping the sale and being awarded Reserve Champion was Messrs Harrison, Brookfield’s shearling ram which sold to £1000 to the judge Mrs Wilson.
