Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 3957 sheep were forward consisting of 2284 prime lambs, 1211 cast sheep and 462 store lambs.

Topping the prime lambs at £186 were a pair of 51kkg Texel cross lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Terry Farm, Ormside. This same home also sold 49kg Texel cross lambs to make £184.

Susan Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside also sold 49kg Texel cross lambs to make £184.

Topping at 390.2p/kg were a pen of four 41kg Rouge cross lambs which made £160 from Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Bassenthwaite. This home also sold 44kg Rouge cross lambs to make £168 (381.8p/kg)

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of 39kg Beltex cross lambs to make £150 (384.6p/kg) with three pens of 55kg, 49kg and 45kg lambs all making £160, a pen of 43kg making £156 and a pen of eight 57kg Texel cross tup lambs making £158.50 all from this home.

Messrs Sowerby, Terry Farm sold a pen of 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £158 (376.2p/kg).

Messrs Strong, Barton Hill, Penrith sold 64kg Dutch Spotted cross lambs to make £169.

Mule lambs sold to £131 from Mr T Brogden, Helbeck Farm, Brough.

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of ten 48kg Mule lambs to make £121 (252.1p/kg).

Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange sold a pen of ten Mules weighing 46kg to make £114.50 (248.9p/kg) with Messrs Brown, Oak House, Ravenstonedale also selling a pen of thirteen Mules also weighing 46kg and making £114.50. This same home also sold Swaledale lambs to make £111.

Another wonderful overall sale average of 266.39ppk was achieved here at Kirkby Stephen.

30 pens of lambs sold between £150-£186.

Cast sheep sold to £198 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Makepeace, Fellowship Farm, Barnard Castle.

Messrs Foster, West End Farm, Barnard Castle sold a pen of three Texel cross ewes to make £190.

Cast Rams topped at £196 for a Texel from Northern Trading Ltd, Penrith.
