Broughton Annual Draft Show & Sale of Mountain Ewes

On Tuesday 10^th October Harrison & Hetherington held their Annual sale of Draft Mountain ewes within Broughton Auction Mart, which attracted an entry of 2000 ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs.

The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by TM Bowes and Agricultural engineers and capably judged by Mr Johnny Bald, Yew Tree who placed his Champions a wonderful pen of 5 3crop Herdwick ewes from regular consignors Anthony Hartley, Turner Hall which went on to sell to £400 per head. Turner Hall also sold  another great pen of 5 Herdwick ewes again to £400 per head.

AJ & L Birkett, Birk Howe Farm sold a pen of 5 Herwick ewes for £380 per head.

On the whole, Herdwick ewes sold exceptionally well with many new faces appearing to purchase this hardy, Lake District breed which Broughton Auction Mart is renowned for.

Swaledale ewes were harder to place yet ewes with power were easily sold, topping at £85 for a pen of 10 from AJ & L Birkett, Birk Howe.
