On Saturday 7th October at Lazonby Mart, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held its annual show and sale of draft Swaledale ewes, followed by the annual sale of Bluefaced Leicester Rams. This event kindly sponsored by Eden Farm supplies and Edgar’s Outdoor Catering.
SWALEDALES: A larger show of ewes was forward with trade rather selective, however, keeping up with other local centres. The pre-sale show was judged by Miss Chloe James and after much deliberation it was decided that the Championship would be awarded to GA & DE Thompson, Howburn’s pen that went on to sell for the top price of the day at £205 purchased by Simon Armstrong, Penrith. The 2nd prize pen from JT Green, Hill Farm sold 10 for £130. The 1st prize shearlings from Paul Staley, Broadmoor selling for £135 broken mouths ewes topped at £92 for a pen of 5 from FJ & J Dixon, Townfoot. Swaledale ewe lambs topped at £78 for a pen of 12 from Reed Partners, Dyke Farm.

BLUEFACED LEICSTERS: A good show of Bluefaced Leicester rams and females with judge Chloe James doing the honours. A strong show of shearlings was forward and the championship was awarded to K & HA Ridley, Allanshields going on to sell for £580 to Alan Bowman, Brampton Fell. The Reserve Champion was a shearling from W & HI Watson, Sanders Close selling for £700. However, topping the trade was a shearling from Phillip Dawson, The Lodge selling for £2400 to Fleming and Wilson, Low Mill, Penrith. The same home also sold shearlings to £1600 and £1400. Females topped at £400 for a ewe lamb from J Reed, The Knarr.
