On Wednesday 11th October Harrison & Hetherington held their A District Swaledale Ram sale on behalf of the Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association within Middleton in Teesdale Mart.
A large crowd of buyers ensured a brisk trade was witnessed as a lesser entry caused great competition ringside to see averages lift for the shearlings to an impressive £1272.79 which is £287.89 up on last year with a 19% greater clearance rate. The sale leader this year was consigned by Adam Stobart, Grains O Beck with his 2nd prize Small Breeeders shearling who sold for £14,000 to R Harker, Grayrigg Hall.
Overall Champion was the 1st prize Large Breeders shearing from R Hutchinson & Son, Valley Farm who sold for £3000 to Raymond Hutchinson, Dirt Pit Farm. Ram lambs topped at £1200 for the 1st prize Large Breeders lamb from J Tully, Burncroft Farm which sold to R Collingwood, Stewart Shield Meadows.
Aged rams topped at £700 from AA Walton & Son Bail Green and sold to TR & KM Wallace, Farney Shields.
