Broughton Annual Suckled Calf Show & Sale

On Tuesday 17^th October at Broughton Mart, Harrison & Hetherington held their annual show and sale of suckled calves.

An outstanding show of cattle was put forward with many buyers commenting on the quality which is a credit to the local consigners. The judging was in the capable hands of Mr James Wharton, Highfield Farm, Appleby he selected his Champion, a very smart 4 month old Limousin bullock from RD Holland & Co, Low Scales, Millom which sold for £1020 to P & A Jarman, Brow Top, Branthwaite.

Reserve Champion was awarded to an outstanding Black Limousin heifer from GJ & CA Penellum, Swinside which sold for £1220 to D & SE Wilson, Parsonage, Silecroft. Out with the show topping the sale at £1240 was a shapey Red Limousin bullock from M & D Hatton, Knott End. A great trade was witnessed for all classes with averages well up on the year. Bullocks average £964 (+ £189) and heifers average £826 (+ £121)
