Borderway Store Cattle & Suckled Calves Sale

STORE CATTLE – Yet another fantastic catalogue of 600 Store cattle forward at Borderway’s weekly sale.   Quality was mixed, as many weathered cattle came forward and were slightly harder to sell despite this any quality or well fleshed cattle still reaped the rewards and an exceptional trade was seen for these sorts. A day’s best of £2000 for a Charolais cross steer from Messrs Moffat, Stonehouse, Gretna with Limousins for the same home selling to £1880 and £1690.  British Blues to £1660 from Messrs Underwood, Longtown and Aberdeen crosses to £1580 for a pen of three from Messrs Hebson, Chapel Farm, Brampton.  The same vendor sold the top pen of Friesians steers with five achieving £1330.  Messrs Nixon, Ribton House, Workington also sold a pen of six Holsteins to £1320.

Heifers sold to a high of £1620 for two Limousin cross from Messrs Story, Hill Top, Brampton from their run of quality heifers.  Messrs Bird, High Wreay, Carlisle selling their best to £1610 alongside Messrs Priestley, Cracrop Farm, Brampton who matched the same price.  British Blues to £1590 from Messrs Slack, Cockley Bank, Brampton and £1540 for a yearling heifer from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House, Haltwhistle.    Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs Sharp, Woodend, Workington to £1510 and Charolais heifers to £1460 from Messrs Gillespie, High Stand, Carlisle.

SUCKLED CALVES – More suckled calves than catalogued with 311 forward to a packed ringside of buyers ensuring all classes were well up on the year. Messrs Ridley, Woodhall sold the top priced Limousin cross heifers for £1370, £1340 (x2), £1300 (x4), £1200 (x3) and £1160 (x2) and Limousin bullocks topped at £1260. Messrs Ackerley, Milton Mains sold 4 7month old Charolais cross bullocks for £1320. Messrs Dent, Beamwham run of 9 month old Limousin cross bullock topped at £1280 (x2) and Limousin cross heifer for £1020. Crowhall Farms run of suckled calves topped at £1210, £1190 (x4) and £1170 (x2) for 8 month old Limousin cross bullock. Messrs Ivinson, Lea Hall sold 7 month old Limousin cross bullock for £1160 and £1140 with heifers selling to £1050.
