Annual 'Newcastleton' Show & Sale of Blue Grey Cattle

On Tuesday 17^th October, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their Great Annual Special sale of Blue Grey In Calf Heifers, Bulling Heifers and heifer calves along with the sale of Suckler calves and native breed store cattle at Lockerbie, whereby an excellent entry of 621 Blue Greys and 206 suckler and store calves were presented to the usual huge array of customers from all regions of the United Kingdom. Trade on a whole for the females would see an easing on the year except the in calf heifers would have been dearer likewise with the suckler calves and store cattle.

The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Tom and Phil Robinson formerly known from Ottercops Farm Phil judged the bulling heifers whereby he placed Messrs Murray, Cartington, Morpeth with the first prize pen of 4 which later sold for £1600 per head to Messrs Hodgson, Cumberlands, Holmrook.  Tom Robinson judged the baby calves and awarded 1^st place to Messrs Murray, Sewing Shields, Hexham which later sold for £750 per head at 5 months 

In the bulling heifers the top price of the day was achieved with a pen of four from regular vendors Messrs Wallace, Farneyshields, Haltwhistle selling to £2600 and the family sold 25 to average £2128. Messrs Flintoff, Sourhope, Kelso sold their best to £2100 for three and sold a total of 20 head to average £2018.42.
