On Tuesday 24th October 2023 Broughton in Furness Market sold 1426 store lambs on their Herdwick wether lamb day.
A good entry of fell lambs from local consigners saw Herdwick and Swaledale lambs a good steady trade throughout, with prices higher than vendors expectations. Topping the sale at £80 was a pen of 14 Texel cross Herdwick lambs from High Stile Partners, Ambleside. A small offering of long keep mule lambs were the trade of the day topping at £74 from Messrs Benn, Field Head, Pure Herdwick lambs topped at £69 form High Stile Partners. Messrs Ellwood, Baskell sold their first pen of 20 Herdwick lambs to £63. Long keep Swaledale lambs sold to £46 for a pen of 38 from DJ & MJ Hoggarth, Old Hall.
The next sale of store and breeding sheep is Tuesday 7th November.
