Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 3052 sheep were forward consisting of 2469 prime lambs and 583 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £166 was a 57kg Texel lambs from Hollins View Farm, Brough Sowerby.

Topping at 405.3p/kg were a pen of 38kg Beltex cross lambs which made £154 from Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport, this home also sold pens of 45kg lambs to make £158, 42kg to £151, and 42kg to £150.

Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick sold a pen of six 40kg Rouge cross lambs to make £160 with a pen of eight 41kg Dutch Texel cross lambs making £150.

Messrs Maughan, Woodfoot, Crosby Ravensworth sold a pen of 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £157 (373.8p/kg).

Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby sold a pen of seven 39kg Beltex cross lambs to make £148 (379.5p/kg)

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold a pair of 54kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £160.

Suffolk cross lambs sold to £132 and 280p/kg for a pen of 47kg lambs from Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport.

Mule lambs topped at £129 for a pen of fifteen from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park, Dufton.

Mules topped at 251.1p/kg for a pen of eighteen 47kg lambs which made £118 from Messrs Birbeck, High Stennerskeugh, Ravenstonedale.

Messrs Fawcett, Argill House, South Stainmore sold a pen of twenty-eight 49kg Mules to make £122 (249p/kg).

A pen of forty one Swaledale lambs weighing 42kg sold to make £100 from Messrs Iceton, High Birk Hatt, Barnard Castle.

Trade made a bounce back from the recent dip for all classes here at Kirkby Stephen with an SQQ average of 270.67p/kg and an overall average of 262.73p/kg being achieved.

53 pens and 230 lambs sold between £140-£166

34 pens and 188 lambs sold between 320-405p/kg

303 Mule lambs sold to average £115.33

The cast sheep section topped at £198 for a Texel ram from Messrs Miller, Bridge End, Colby.

Cast ewes topped at £160 for a Beltex cross ewes from Messrs Hall, Lankaber, Mauld Meaburn.

Mule ewes sold to £103 for a pen of seventeen from Messrs Hall, Lankaber.

Rough Fell ewes sold to £76 for a pen of five from Messrs Law, Crooksbeck, Ravenstonedale.

Swaledale ewes topped at £68 from Messrs Brogden, Helbeck Farm, Brough.

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of eleven Swaledale ewes to make £66.

All classes of ewes were a sharper trade and many more could have been sold well!
