KAEMUIR TOP WITH AT BORDERWAY
November dairy sales at Borderway kicked off in style with an outstanding offering of freshly calved animals, in calf cows, in calf heifers and bulling heifers. Just over 350 head sold with the trade for fresh milkers topping at £2750 to average £1937 with buyers recorded from eighteen counties across England, Scotland & Wales.
Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to the Orr family from Kaemuir Farm near Falkirk. Kaemuir Art Pipit was sired by Zandenburg Art and was bred from a high yielding dam with production over 12000kgs at 5% butterfat.
The top average of the day went to the Hillhead herd owned by the Flemings, they sold 3 heifers to average £2216 and topped at £2550 for Hillhead Oneida Duchess.
The Gray family from Langside Farm in Lanarkshire topped the cow trade selling a second lactation cow sired by Superpoll for £2100. This fine group of milking heifers and cows averaged £2190.
Cumrue Farming Partners and Lawkland Hall Farm Partnership sold 64 spring calved New Zealand Friesian – Jersey cross bred cows to average £701 with the top price coming to £1250 on two occasions for a milking heifers due again in May to the Angus. Some of these animals were confirmed pregnant again for May with the remaining animals running with the Angus bull.
Buyers had a fine selection of Holstein In Calf heifers to choose from and they topped at £1750 on four occasions. These heifers were part of a special consignment of 70 heifers from Sandyknowe Farm in Kelso, they were all sired by Secretariat and were due in December to the Angus. 86 Holstein In Calf heifers averaged £1536.
67 Holstein bulling heifers were consigned by a numerous breeding establishments to average £835 with the top price £1220 being achieved on two occasions. These two heifers were consigned by the Airey family owners of the Newcroft Holstein herd near Carnforth. The first was a powerful framed heifer Red & White heifers sired by Panda Budweiser Red and the second to sell for £1220 was sired by Larcrest Atomic Red from the Rolls family.
