Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 4,239 sheep were forward consisting of 2,765 prime lambs, 953 cast sheep and 521 store lambs.

Topping the sale at £195 were a pair of 59kg Texel cross lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside which were bought by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

Topping at 413.8p/kg were a pen of twelve 40kg Rouge cross lambs which sold for £165.50 from Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Bassenthwaite.

Selling for 408.1p/kg were a pen of seven 37kg Beltex cross lambs which made £151 from Messrs Askwith, Middle Mown Meadows, Crook with this home also selling a pair of 42kg lambs to make £140 (404.8p/kg).

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of 45kg Beltex cross lambs to make £178 with another pen of nine 44kg lambs makings £174, a pen of 50kg making £172 and a pen of eight 41kg lambs making £166 (404.9p/kg) all from Boscar Flats.

Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby sold a pen of twenty 39kg Beltex cross lambs to make £158.50 (406.4p/kg)

Messrs Sommerville, Lansmere, Penrith sold a pen of 56kg lambs to make £177, with a pen of eight 47kg lambs making £170 also from this home,

Messrs Robson, Newstead Grange, Malton sold 61kg Texel cross lambs to make £175, with this same home also selling 54kg Beltex cross lambs to make £170.

Messrs Wilson, Lowfield Cottage sold a pen of 64kg Texel tup lambs to make £173.

Messrs Banks, Ladying Farm, Winton sold a pen of five 59kg Texel cross lambs to make £170.

Messrs Pedley, Prospect Farm, Waitby sold a pen of four 57kg Texel cross lambs to make £170.

Messrs Dodd, Skylin, Temple Sowerby sold a pen of 49kg Beltex cross lambs to make £174.

Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan sold a pen of six 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £170. (404.8p/kg)

Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond sold 64kg lambs to make £170.

Suffolk cross lambs sold to £160 for 61kg lambs from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Distington.

Mule lambs sold to £135 for a pen of 54kg from Messrs Gowland, Woodbine House, Ireshopeburn with this home also selling a pen of seventeen 53kg Mules to make £132.

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park, sold a pen of twelve 54kg Mules to make £131.50.

Messrs Luck, Milestone House, Barnard Castle sold a pen of 49kg Mules to make £129.50 (264.3p/kg)

Messrs Foster, West End Farm, Barnard Castle sold a pen of twelve 40kg Mules to make £109 (272.5p/kg)

Swaledale lambs sold to £116 for 49kg lambs from Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle, with a pen of nineteen 40kg Swaledales making £103.50 (258.8p/kg) and a pen of 35kg Swaledales making £89 (254.3p/kg) also from this home.

A pen of 43kg Blackfaced lambs sold to make £117 (272.1p/kg) from Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby.

You literally had to be here to believe the trade which was off the clock from start to finish!

An unbelievable SQQ average of 310.31p/kg and an overall average of 301.6p/kg and a whopping £134.31 for all breeds sold was achieved, nothing more can be said!!

46 pens and 185 lambs sold between £160-£195

51 pens and 367 lambs sold between 350-413p/kg.

Fourteen active buyers were in attendance!

874 Beltex cross lambs sold to average £148.35 and 340p/kg.

Topping the Cast sheep at £208 on two separate occasions for a pair od Beltex cross ewes from Page Farm Partnership, Ripon and also for the same price from Messrs Tiplady, Red House Farm, Barnard Castle, with this same home selling Texel cross ewes to £206.

Swaledale ewes sold to £80 from Messrs Gowland, Ireshopeburn and also from Messrs Richardson, Croft House, Ravenstonedale.

Cast rams sold to £192 and £180 for Beltex from Messrs Dodd, Skylin, Temple Sowerby.
