Middleton In Teesdale Suckled Calf Sale

On Tuesday 7th November Harrison and Hetherington conducted the sale of 500 suckler calves in Middleton in Teasdale Market. Customers from all 4 nations were present waiting in anticipation for the best suckler calf sale in the area to take place. A huge congratulations must go to each vendor the quality of cattle forward was unrivalled and firmly stuck Middleton on the map.

Before the sale, the pre-sale show took place. This year the honour of judging went to Mr Harry Emslie, Peterhead who awarded the championship to the first prize British Blue heifer by JC & J White, Rigg Farm which also went on to make top price of the day for £5000 sired by Oaktree Gowrey selling to the Judge. The reserve champion was awarded to the champion British Blue cross steer from D J Mallon, Pallet Crag which went on to make £1700 and top price steer of the selling to the Judge.

Winning the Eric Tarn Memorial Trophy which was donated by Mrs Judith Tarn for the highest price pen of 3 steers went to JC & J White, Rigg Farm selling for £1270 and The Dallas Laith Perpetual Shield for the highest price pen of 3 heifers went to Mr Ian Raine, Sunnybrae selling for £1020.

Onto the sale where the trade was simply explosive from the first to the last with most calves being aged between 6-7 months the trade was far better than everyone’s pre-sale expectations. Many heifers were sold to vendors advantage with some highlights being from JC & J White selling a British Blue cross heifer for £2400 to Mr James Alexander, Northern Ireland. Mr Iceton, High Birch sold a may born Limousin heifer selling to £1420 again to Mr Alexander, Northern Ireland. Dave Mallon sold a smart Limousin heifer for £1500 to M & B Coulthard, Bridge End.
