Kirkby Stephen Annual Breeding Cattle show & Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen mart held their annual show and sale of beef breeding cattle when an entry of 458 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £4,800 and receiving the late Dawn Robinson Memorial Trophy for the first placed outfit which was awarded by our judge local quality suckled calf producer Mr R Hayton, Asby Grange was a Limousin cross heifer with Limousin heifer calf at foot from Messrs McAlister, Wester Thomaston, Bonnybridge which was successfully purchased by Messrs Harrison, Beck Head, Barnard Castle.

Messrs McAlister also sold outfits to £4000, £3400 twice and £3350.

Messrs Ousby, Bents Farm, Newbiggin on Lune sold a Limousin cross heifer with a Limousin heifer calf at foot to make £3550.

Messrs Elliott, Bank House, Penrith sold a Limousin cross heifer with Limousin heifer calf at foot to make £3500.

Messrs Atkinson, Green Farm sold a Limousin cross heifer with Limousin steer calf to also make £3500.

Messrs Bell, High Dyke Farm, Penrith sold a Limousin cross heifer with Limousin heifer calf at foot for £3400.

G&S Holdings, Stoneygarth, Little Asby sold a British Blue cross heifer with a Limousin steer calf at foot to make £3400

Topping the incalf section at £4100 was a Limousin cross heifer incalf to the Limousin bull from annual consignor Messrs Bradley, Penny Grange, Settle and was bought by Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby.

Messrs Bradley also sold Limousin cross incalf heifers to make £4000 selling to Messrs Millar, Crookholm, Canonbie.

The first prize incalf heifer was also awarded to Messrs Bradley, Penny Grange for a Limousin cross heifger which sold for £3800.

The same home also sold incalf British Blue cross heifers to make £3400, £3300, £3250 and £3200 twice.

The whole consignment of 24 fantastic in calf Limousin and British Blue cross heifers from Penny Grange sold to average a phenomenal £3135.42.

Messrs Dandie, The Dales, Broxburn sold British Blue cross incalf heifers to make £3400 and £3350.

A fantastic trade was witnessed for all classes of beef breeding cattle with a packed ringside of buyers being attracted by the quality and quantity of breeding cattle on offer at the largest sale in the country here at Kirkby Stephen.

117 Heifers and Calves sold to average £2,732.94 (+ £316.36 on the year).

25 Cows and Calves sold to average £2,273.53 (+ £204.60 on the year).

130 In-Calf heifers sold to average £2,489.47 (+ £87.20 on the year).

35 In-Calf Cows sold to average £1,470.
