PRIME CATTLE: A good entry of 51 prime steers and heifers forward selling at a good trade throughout, with 10 selling to £2000 and over to a day’s top of £2473.12 for a Limousin cross steer weighing 823kg from Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg Farm Egremont purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Messrs Sloan, Rigghead, Dumfries sold 819kg to £2182.64 purchased again by Mr Eric Hall. Charolais crosses sold to £1986.99 for a 642kg from Messrs Crowther, Spittalriddinghill, Annan. British Blue crosses sold to £1963.50 for 660kg steer from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston. Top overall pence per kilo was the aforementioned Charolais cross from Messrs Crowther, at 309.0p
Heifers sold to £2177.70 for a 732kg Limousin cross from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby purchased by R & JP Mulholland Butchers Shop, Great Orton, Carlisle. Messrs Beaty, Langhorn Farm, Egremont sold 734kg to £2066.21 and Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton sold 688 kgs to £2060.56 purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Dent, Elm House sold the top priced Charolais cross to £1994.63 for 675kgs again to Pioneer Foods. Messrs Wilson, Bowscale, Maryport sold top British Blue cross to £1822.96 for 619kgs to Mr Eric Hall. Top overall pence per kilo of 335.50p went to a 596kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Rome, Niven Hill, Gretna purchased by Steven Wilson, Corby Hill and Brampton Butchers Shops. Top overall price of £2611.29 went to a Limousin from Messrs Thompson, Townfoot, Penrith, this bull weighed 902kg and sold to A & D Meats. The same home sold a further two weighing 801kg and 795kg to £2286.86 and £2237.93 purchased by A & D Meats and Mutchmeats. Charolais to £2148.30 for 868kg from Messrs Goldie, South Bowerhouses, Dumfries purchased by A & D Meats. British Blues to £2062.71 for 738kg from Messrs Brough, Old Rectory, Carlisle and Aberdeen Angus to £1931.22 from Messrs Hewitson, Kings Hill, Brampton purchased by Mr Alan Jarvis. Joint top pence per kilo of 295.5p went to a 629kg Limousin cross from Messrs Graham, Miller Hill, Brampton and a 686kg Limousin from Messrs Richardson, Whitehead Brow, Wigton. Mr Thomas Wilson, Wood Farm sold a Limousin cow for 711kg, 227.5p, £1617 bought by Owain Llyr. Messrs Atkinson & son, Hawkrigg Farm sold a Limousin cross cow for 687kg, 219.5p, £1507 also to Owain Llyr. Messrs Hodgson & Peart, Weeds Farm sold a Limousin for 653kg, 219.5p, £1433 to Owain Llyr. Messrs Lochhead, St Ninians Grove sold a Shorthorn Heifer for 598kg, 217.5p, £1300 to Capper Farming. Messrs Lochhead also sold the top priced Aberdeen Angus cow for 900kg, 175.5p, £1579 to Scotbeef.
