Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 4,508 sheep were forward consisting of 3,112 prime lambs, 1,055 cast sheep and 341 store lambs.

Topping the sale at £212 were a pair of 63kg Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond.

Topping at 456.8p/kg were a pen of seven 37kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £169 from Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport, with this home also selling a pen of ten 39kg Beltex cross lambs to make £170 (435.9p/kg) and a pen of five 41kg lambs making £173 (422p/kg)

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of three 47kg Beltex cross lambs to make £180, with this hone also selling a pen of six 39kg lambs to make £170 (435.9p/kg) and a pen of seven 41kg lambs to make £172 (419.5p/kg)

Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick sold a pen of twelve 39kg Rouge cross lambs to make £172 (441p/kg) with this home selling a pen of eleven 39kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £162 (415.4p/kg).

Messrs Dodd, Skylin, Temple Sowerby sold a pen of eight 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £175 (416.7p/kg).

Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk sold a pen of eight 39kg lambs to make £164.50 (421.8p/kg)

Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby sold 39kg lambs to make £164 (420.5p/kg)

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton sold 51kg lambs to make £175.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold 54kg and 59kg Texel cross lambs to make £176 and £175.

Mules also topped at 254.3p/kg for a pen of 46kg that sold for £117 from Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby.

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of 34 50kg mules to make £123.

Once again a leading SQQ average of 292.8p/kg and an overall sale average of 284.2p/kg and £126.14 was achieved here at Kirkby Stephen for 3112 lambs which includes over 630 Mule and horned lambs!

43 pens and 213 lambs sold between £160-£212

85 pens and 431 lambs sold between £150-£212

16 pens and 115 lambs sold between 400-456p/kg

61 pens and 329 lambs sold between 350-456p/kg.

Cast ewes topped at £240 for a pen of four Texel cross ewes from Messrs Richardson, Etherley House, Darlington.

A pen of seven Beltex cross ewes sold to make £169 Messrs Hauge, Mill Street, Whitehaven.

Hill cheviot ewe sold to £123 for a pen of ten from Messrs Gargett, Westwick Farm, Barnard Castle.

Swaledale ewes topped at £70 on two separate occasions for a pen of six from Messrs Birkbeck, High Stennerskeugh, Ravenstonedale and from Messrs Hauge, Whitehaven.
