Kirkby Stephen OTM & Cast Cows

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their Christmas Sale of cast and OTM cattle when 50 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £2119.58 was a 6 year old British Blue cow weighing 885kg and making 239.5p/kg from Messrs Brannen, Scar Top, Newbiggin, Penrith which sold to Owain Llyr.

Topping at 283.5p/kg was Limousin cross cow weighing 532kg and totalling £1508.22 from Messrs Raine & Davidson, Thorney Gale, Stainmore and was purchased by Owain Llyr.

Messrs Slack, Stoneriggs, Hilton sold a 1023kg Limousin cast bull to £1938.59 (189.5p/kg) Purchased by Owain Llyr.

Dairy cows topped at £1440.58 for a nine year old Friesian weighing 892kg and making 161.5p/kg from Messrs Hodgson, Soulby Grange, Soulby which was bought by Messrs Roberts.

The same home also sold a eight year old Aberdeen Angus cow weighing 875kg to make £1605.63(183.5p/kg)

Messrs Owen, Ravenseat sold a six year old Beef Shorthorn cow weighing 816kg to make £1236.24 (151.5p/kg).

Dairy cows sold to 185.5p for a 593kg Holstein from Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby.

Messrs Owen, Sandwath Farm, Kirkby Stephen sold a 18 month old 631kg Black & White steer to £1612.21 (255.5p/kg) purchased by D. Barker with another 674kg steer also selling to £1465.95 (217.5p)

Trade for all classes was as dear as seen for some time with an overall sale average of 180.47p/kg and £1289.62 per head being achieved.
