BORDERWAY WAS BRIMMING WITH QUALITY FOR DECEMBER OPENER
Buyers travelled from across the UK for the last Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale of 2023 where they had the choice of almost 300 dairy cattle with quality animals on offer throughout the sale. The catalogue was brimming with exceptional animals bred by many of the best milk producers in the north of England and Scotland. Trade for fresh milkers topped at £2500 on five occasions to average £1941 with buyers recorded from eighteen counties across England, Scotland & Wales.
Agri-King sponsored the sale with the first animals to sell for the top price going to the Williamsons from Barrowmoor Farm near Appleby. This fine consignment of British Frisian cows and heifers opened the sale with lot 3 & lot 4 selling for £2500. These two third lactation British Friesian cows both had classy udders and exceptional feet and legs.
Next to sell for £2500 was two high producing animals from the Wilson’s from Woodside Farm. They sold Wreaywood Recoil Jodie for £2500, she was fresh in her second and was giving close to 50kgs. The also sold Wreaywood Copycat Emerald for £2500 she had recently calved with her first and was giving close to 40kgs. Both animals were sired by Mr Stone-Front Reeve Red, a further 13 animals sold form the Wreaywood herd sold to average £2055.
The Liscabank Holstein herd owned by the Parkinson family from Preston sold ten heifers to average almost £2100 and had the fifth joint top price, selling Liscabank Attico Rika Red for £2500.
There were ten animals sold for £2450 and a further seven that sold for £2400 resulting in a brisk trade for well developed Holstein cattle displaying the ability to produce large volume of milk.
Ayrshire cattle topped at £2050 for Swaites Felicity consigned by John Adamson from Lanark. This amazing uddered second lactation cow was giving close to 50kgs and was bred from a 12000kgs dam.
