Kirkby Stephen Primestock Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,566 sheep were forward consisting of 3,057 prime lambs and 509 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £295 and 536.4p/kg were the overall champion pair of lambs which were a pair of 55kg Texel crosses from Messrs Askwith, Middle Mown Meadows, Crook, Country Durham and were purchased by Bowland Foods Ltd, Preston.

Our judge Mr D Parkin of Parkin Butchers, Scunthorpe awarded the reserve overall championship to the second prize pair of heavy weight Texel cross lambs which weighed 52kg and made £230 (442.3p/kg) from Messrs Elliott, Espland House, Penrith which sold to Yorkshire Halal Meats, Ossett.

Messrs Askwith, Middle Mown Meadows sold a pair of 47kg Beltex cross lambs to make £230 (489.4p/kg) with this home also selling a pair of 43kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £198 (460.5p/kg).

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold a pair of 51kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £210 selling to Dowdings Butchers, Appleby, with this home selling a pair of 54kg Texel cross lambs to make £200 selling to Bowland Foods Ltd, Preston.

Messrs Pattinson, Pinfold House, Barnard Castle sold a 53kg Beltex cross lambs in aid of Marie Curie Cancer to make £200 which was bought by Yorkshire Halal Meats.

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of eight 39kg Beltex cross lambs to make £168 (430.8p/kg) with a pen of seven 40kg lambs making £170 (425p/kg) from this home.

Messrs Burbridge, Park Farm, Stamford sold a pair of 37kg Beltex cross lambs to make £160 (432.4p/kg)

Mule lambs topped at £140 on two occasions for two pens of 56kg and 54kg lambs from Messrs Wharton, Keisley Farm, Murton and from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton.

Mules topped at 266.7p/kg for a pen of 45kg lambs which sold for £120 from Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby.

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of ten 47kg Mules lambs to make £123 (261.7p/kg)

Blackfaced lambs sold to £111 and 270.7p/kg for a pen of 41kg lambs from Messrs Birkbeck, Castle, Hill, Soulby.

Swaledale lambs sold to 252.9p/kg for a pen of twenty one 35kg lambs which made £88.50 from Messrs Bowes, Glen Whelt, Bishop Auckland.

Messrs Dickinson, High Wood End, Tebay sold a pen of ten 39kg Swaledales to make £96 (246.2p/kg)

Cast sheep topped at £160 for a pen of five Beltex cross ewes from Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield.

Mule ewes topped at £114 from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington.

Blackfaced ewes sold to £81 for a pen from Messrs Samuel, Annan.

Swaledale ewes topped at £80 for a pen of five from Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton.

Messrs Samule, Annan sold two pens of five Swaledale ewes both to make £79.

Messrs Fawcett, Argill House, South Stainmore sold a pen of fifteen Swaledale ewes to make £78.
