Borderway Sale of Calves

On Wednesday 13^th December, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of calves.  Borderway was “Boom”  town in the calf ring today with a packed ringside of buyers saw the hottest trade of the season, many more could have been handled to sellers advantage with a sale average of £303 per head.  Topping the sale at £640 was strong British Blue calf from J & A Barrow & Sons, Helm Farm, Ormside.  KD & DE Millar & Partners, Crookholm, Canonbie sold a shapely four month old British Blue steer from £630.  S Hornby, Laggonmore, Port Patrick sold a pair of British Blue bulls to £600.  Limousin bull calves topped at £550 for Limousin heifers topped at £460 both from G & SE Fox, Windy Hill, Hethersgill.  Angus bull calves topped at £500 for a 3 month old from A F Ramsey, Gillespie, Glenluce shortly followed at £490 for a 3 month Angus bull From Messrs Reed, Moss Side House, Newton Arlosh.  Young calves were highly sought after today with outstanding presented 2 month British Blue bull calves from Turnbull Farming, Monks House selling for £480.  Angus heifers topped at £440 from WE & DM Hill & Son, Arlosh House, Wigton.  British Blue heifer calves topped at £450 from Moss Side House with numerous selling for over £400.  Bowe Dairy Farming, Chalk Lodge sold an exceptional run of British Blue bull calves topping at £440 at only 6 weeks of age.
