Borderway Sale of Store Cattle

STORE CATTLE –On Wednesday 13^th December, Harrison & Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle.  As numbers tightened to 240 at Borderways weekly sale, trade rockets to new heights with an overall sale average of £1365 for both steers and heifers combined.  Top call of the day was £1880 three times, twice for steers and once for a heifer.  Steers came from Messrs Slack, Cockley Bank, Brampton with a Charolais cross and secondly for a British Blue cross from Messrs Batty, Flimby Hall, Maryport.  Herefords to £1770 from Cockley Bank, Friesians to a record £1740 from Messrs Smith, Campingholm, Gretna.  Limousins to £1700 twice from Newtown Farm, Carlisle and to £1700 for a Beef Shorthorn from Campingholm, Gretna.  Montbelairde to £1680 from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna and to average a fantastic £1626 for five Montbeliardes.  A pen of three Holstein Friesian all over 30 month from Messrs Smith, The Green, Annan to £1400.  Heifers joint topped at £1880 from Messrs Grice, Newtown Farm for a Limousin cross.  Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1640 from Messrs Crowther, Spittalriddinghill, Annan, £1630 Messrs Smith, Campingholm, British Blues to £1600 from Messrs Batty, Flimby Hall, Maryport.  Simmentals to £1510 for an over age heifer from Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, Milnthorpe and finally Charolais to £1400 from Messrs Brough, Clappers Farm, Wigton.
