Other Simmentals sold to £2209.06 for 868kg from Messrs Dyet, East Merkland, Lanarkshire. Limousins to £2664.65 for 1203kgs from Messrs Hutton, Setmabanning Farm, Keswick. £2556.42 for 826kgs and £2330.73 for 823kgs from Messrs Nimmo, Bogside Farm, Wishaw. British Blues to £2367.42 for 841kgs from Messrs Davidson, Aultown, Abington, Lanark. Charolais to £2367.37 for 847kgs from Messrs H Goldie, South Bowerhouses, Dumfries and Beef Shorthorn to £2005.77 for 859kgs from Messrs Steen, Coxhill Farm, Moffat. Top overall pence per kilo of 319.5p went to a 610kg Limousin cross from Messrs Maw, Wintershields, Carlisle. Black and white bulls topped at £1548.75 for 750kgs Holstein Friesians from Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown. Holsteins weighing 664kgs from the same home to £1517.24 and 685kg Friesians to £1455.13 from Messrs Graham, Hillhead, Canonbie. A top pence per kilo of 228.50 went to South Lambhill with their Holstein weighing 664kg

Topping the trade at £2267.65 was a 770 kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold 727kgs to £2264.61 and 718kgs to £2207.85. Messrs Bell, Hoddamtown Lockerbie sold 769kg to £2210.88 purchased by Eric Hall. Charolais to £2091.08 for 735kg from Messrs Cape, Kirkland Guards, Wigton to Eric Hall. Simmentals to £2038.97 for 751kg from Messrs Morton, Church Farm, Penrith.
Top pence per kilo of 311.5 for a 727kg Limousin cross from Bothel Parks, Wigton. Heifers sold to £2136.59 for a 759kg Simmental cross from Messrs Morton, Church Farm Penrith. Limousins to £2047.46 for 789kgs from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle and Messrs Pearson, High Plasket Lands, Maryport sold 655kgs to £2027.23 and finally a day’s top overall pence per kilo of 315.5 went to a 519kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Harrington, Hosket Hill, Carlisle.

Messrs Goldie, South Bowerhouses sold the top priced Charolais cow for 1022kg, 207.5p, £2120 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs James, Low Todholes sold the top priced British Blue cow for 736kg, 257.5p, £1895 to Owain Llyr. Messrs Cadzow & Co, Duncrahill run of cows topped at 954kg, 197.5p, £1884 for a Beef Shorthorn and Limousin cows topped at 890kg, 203.5p, £1811 bought by Frank Smart and Scotbeef with younger Limousin cows selling for 665kg, 261.5p, £1738 and 528kg, 235.5p, £1243 and 748kg, 231.5p, £1731 and 503kg, 227.5p, £1144 bought by Owain Llyr, Alan Jarvis (x2), Jewitts. Prime Sheep: On Monday 11th Dec 2023 H&H held their weekly sale of 3371 prime lambs and 620 cast ewes and rams. There was certainly no hangover after last week’s Christmas party in the sheep ring with vendors once again turning out in force and delivering a fantastic show of sheep for our large company of buyers to get their order books well in action. We thank each and every one of you again for your tremendous support. The trade certainly did its best to spread some Christmas cheer with an overall average of 283p and SQQ of 291p for a show of lambs which saw several large runs of heavy lambs forward which resulted in a price per head average of £127.42. Top of the pops today was Tom Neill, Upper Tinwald who sold a great run of lambs to £182 which were purchased by Bowland Foods. Top per kilo honors came from M/s Scott, Thirlwall Castle Farm who sold lambs to 400p per kilo also bought by Bowland Foods. The highlights are too numerous to mention so take a look at the prices achieved.
