PRIME BULLS: A fantastic entry of 93 bulls forward for the last sale of 2023. Trade wouldn’t be as flashy as last week but neither would the quality. Topping the sale overall was a 932kg Charolais from Messrs Goldie, Greenfield, Annan achieving £2642.22 and purchased by A & D Meats. Limousins to £2363.79 for 754kgs from Messrs Marrs, Cathow, Cleater. Aberdeen Angus crosses sold to £1835.75 for 757kgs from first time vendors Messrs Halliday, Gledenholm, Dumfries purchased by Morgan Helliwell, Ruchdale. Top pence per kilo overall at 313.5 went to Messrs Marrs, Cathows for a Limousin. Messrs Brown, Willows, Workington sold 568kgs to 303.5p to Mutch Meats. Black and Whites sold to £1530.27 for 694kgs from Messrs Craham, Hillhead, Canonbie and a top pence per kilo of 228.5p for a Holstein/ Friesian weighing 578kgs from Messrs Walker, Barwinnoch, Newton Stewart and Messrs Jackson Skelton Wood End, Penrith to 225.5p for 545kgs.

PRIME CATTLE: A very mixed show of 44 prime steers and heifers forward selling to a very sharp trade throughout the sale. Topping the sale overall was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Bell, Hoddomtown, Lockerbie selling 735kgs to £2223.38 to Mr Eric Hall. The same home also sold the next best at £2217.69 for 738kgs Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold two steers at 710kgs & 714kgs to £2183.25 & £2138.43. Messrs Byers, Ellenbank, Wigton sold an over thirty month Charolais to £2004.75. Top pence per kilo steer was 307.5p for a 710kgs for a Limousin from Bothel Parks, Wigton to Mr Eric Hall. Heifers seen a day’s top of £1842.17 for a 609Kgs Limousin cross from Messrs Lawson Stubsgill Farm, Workington to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle and 609kgs from Messrs Harrington, Hosket Hill, Carlisle to £1811.78 a light 548kg Blue Grey heifer sold to £1411.10 from Messrs Verrill, Sundaysight, Hexham purchased by David Barker and Holstein heifers to £1315.41 from Hardgrove Farm, Carrutherstown, Dumfries for 637kgs. Prime Sheep: Borderway prime sheep see out 2023 in style with a massive show on all fronts again, and a trade to please anyone, with an overall average of £128, 282ppk and a SQQ of 290ppk.
