DYKEHEAD FARM KICKS OF 2024 AT THE TOP

HEIFERS AVERAGE OVER £2100

Happy New Year from everyone at Borderway!  The new year kicked off in style at Borderway with a tremendous offering of milkers and in calf heifers.  Trade topped at £2620 with milking heifers averaging £2108 with only a small percentage selling for less than £2000.  Buyers from across the UK packed the ringside with all categories of dairy cattle attracting brisk bidding.  The breeders and consignors must be congratulated on the exceptional quality of the animals on offer. 

Agri-King sponsored this sale with the top price going to the Carnduff herd of the Bryson family from Dykehead Farm from Lanarkshire.  Carnduff Kenmore Girl sold for 2,620gns and was giving 39kgs she was sired by Denovo Kenmore.  Her dam was a Very Good classified cow that produced over 12000kgs on several lactations.   This exceptional consignment of heifers averaged £2372.

The cows topped at £2520 for Wreaywood Rusty Sonya Red who was consigned by the Wilson family from Woodside Farm near Carlisle.  Sonya was freshly calved in her second lactation and was producing 47kgs.  20 cows and heifers sold from the Wreaywood herd to average £2191.

Early in the sale Andrew Graves from Home Farm near Cockermouth sold a fine selection of heifers and topped at £2450 for a daughter of Delta Fisherman with a PL+£409.

The second sale to disperse the ESK pedigree Holstein Friesian herd owned by Robert Byers from Canonbie topped at £2400 for Esk Supersire Hopey.  She was sired by Seagull-Bay Supersire and had recently calved in her third lactation and was giving 42kgs.  This fine group of cows and heifers averaged £2000.

Also selling for £2400 was Kibbleston Samuri Jan who was consigned by the Craig family from Dunfermline in Fife.  She was sired by OCD Spring Samuri and bred from a dam with over 5% butterfat.  This special consignment averaged £2300. 

An outstanding group of Ayrshire heifers were consigned by the Stevenson family from Kirminnoch Farm near Stranraer.  They topped at £2000 twice to average £1982 for five very attractive animals.

In calf heifers topped at £1650 twice for Wyreview Mauro Lotus and Wyreview Lunar Rika who were consigned by the Parkinson family from Quakes Farm in Lancashire.  These two well grown and well bred heifers were due in April to Ranger Red sexed.
