Kirkby Stephen Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their opening show and sale of store cattle when a catalogued entry of 523 cattle were on offer.

Topping the sale at £2200 was a 20 months old Limousin cross steer from Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park, Bleatarn, this same home also sold 19 month old Limousin cross steers to £2175 x2, £2145 x3, and £2100. The consignment of twelve Limousin cross steers from this home sold to average a whopping £2095.

The overall championship was awarded by our judge Mr A Webster of Taylors Farm Shop, Ormskirk, to an 18 month old British Blue cross steer which sold for £1980 and was consigned by Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside.

This same home also sold Limousin cross steers to make £2105 and £2100.

Limousin cross heifers sold to £2045 from Messrs Owen, Sandwath Farm, Kirkby Stephen.

British Blue cross Black & White steers sold to £1945, £1835 (x2) and £1735(x2) from Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby, with this same home selling Aberdeen Angus cross steers to £1855.

Holstein/Friesian steers sold to £1455 for a pen of four from Messrs Longrigg, Breaks Hall, Appleby.

Trade was flying from start to finish with steers averaging £1481.95 (up £200.49 on the year)

Heifers averaged £1372.85 (up £30.78 on the year)

An overall sale average of £1432.48 was achieved which was up £125.21 for 124 more cattle sold on the year.
