Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 2,561 sheep were forward consisting of 2,008 prime hoggs and 553 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £202 was a 54kg Beltex cross hogg from regular consignor Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York. This same home also topped at 438.8p/kg for a pen of 40kg hoggs which made £175.50, with another pen of nine 39kg Beltex cross hoggs making £170.50 (437.2p/kg) a pen of six 38kg hoggs making £165.50 (435.5p/kg) and a pen of six 39kg hoggs selling for £165.50 (424.4p/kg), with a 51kg Beltex cross hoggs also making £180 and a 60kg Dutch Spotted hoggs making £176 also from Boscar Flats.

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton sold a pen of six 42kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £179.50 (427.4p/kg), with this home also selling a pen of three 43kg hoggs to make £174.50, and a pen of six 42kg hoggs making £173.50.

Messrs Allison, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle sold a pair of 62kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £180.

Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree Farm, Harrogate sold a pen of five 43kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £174.50, with a pair of 47kg hoggs making £174, and a pen of five 43kg making £171.50.

Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth sold a pen of fifteen 38kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £160 (421.1p/kg)

Texel cross hoggs sold to £173 for 56kg and £170 for 52kg hoggs from Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon.

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £165 from Messrs Ellwood, Old Mill Flatt, Penrith.

Mule hoggs topped at £156 for a pen of twenty-six 57kg hoggs from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park, Dufton.

Messrs Fawcett, Argill House, South Stainmore sold a pen of 53kg Mules to make £142.

Mules also topped at 281.4p/kg for a pen of 35kg which sold for £98.50 from Messrs Lawson, Pasture House Farm, Wigton.

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth Ripon sold a pen of eighteen 46kg Mule hoggs to make £126.50 (275p/kg) with another pen of twelve 50kg Mules making £134 also from this home.

Swaledale hoggs sold to £127.50 on two separate occasions firstly for a pen of eighteen 47kg hoggs which also topped at 271.3p/kg from Messrs Fawcett, Argill House with a pen of twenty-one 52kg Swaledale tup hoggs also making £127.50 from Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras.

A pen of twenty-five 38kg Swaledales made £99.50 (261.8p/kg) from Messrs Rutherford, Irestone, Bishop Auckland.

Another fantastic SQQ average of 309.16p/kg and an overall sale average of 298.6p/kg and £132.17 which includes over 600 horned and Mule hoggs!

Cast sheep topped at £274 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Astley, West Stobswood, Morpeth, with this same home also selling a pen of four Texel cross ewes to make £268, with this home also selling pens of ewes to make £210 and £200.

Messrs Teward, Fair View, Barnard Castle sold a Texel ewe to make £254.50.

Messrs Wharton, Galloper Rise sold Texel ewes to £246.50, £200, and £198.

Swaledale ewes sold to £94 from Messrs Brown, Oak House, Ravenstonedale.

Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras sold a pen of thirteen Swaledale ewes to make £77.

Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap sold a pen of eleven Swaledale ewes to make £74.

Cast tups topped at £170 for a Texel from Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby.
