Borderway Store Cattle Sale

STORE CATTLE –On Wednesday 17th January, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly store cattle sale.  An excellent entry of 551 Store cattle forward selling to what can only be described as be dearest trade known to the Company and what will make any private sales look foolish.  The mainly dairy bred show of cattle saw a day’s overall top of £2200 for a red steer from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan and Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae at Gretna to £2000 for another, a Montbelairde from the same home sold to £1840.  Dairy bred British Blues to £1710 from Messrs Story, Bankend, Carlisle and a pen of four Dairy bred Charolais to £1710 from Messrs Holiday, New Bampton, Wigton.  Fleckvieh to £1500 twice from Messrs Crichton, Limekilns, Annan and Friesians to £1440 from Messrs Dodd, Keepershield, Hexham.

Heifers saw a top of £1900 from Messrs Wallace, Claycrop, Newton Stewart run of 18 Limousin crosses which averaged a very healthy £1628.82.  Messrs Cullen, Crosshill, Carlisle sold another to £1890.  Simmentals to £1690 from Messrs Byers, Gimmenbie, Lockerbie and British Blues to £1560 on two occasions, firstly by Messrs Ferguson, Sandbed, Longtown and secondly by Messrs Hall, Kelsick House, Wigton and finally Aberdeen Angus to £1490 from Messrs Byers, Gimmenbie, Lockerbie
