PRIME BULLS: A much improved show of 112 prime bulls producing another flyer of a trade for all shapes and sizes.  Topping the sale overall was a 922kg Charolais from Messrs Watson, Bowsden Moor, Berwick Upon Tweed.  This bull equates to £2816.71 and purchased by A & D Meats.  Messrs Watson sold a further two Charolais to £2743.64 for 904kg and £2441.03 for 855kgs.  British Blues to £2787.57 for 846kg from Messrs Jewitt, Gracies Farm, Barnard Castle and £2597.49 for 798kgs from the same home.  Limousin to £2609.38 for 835kgs from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle and to £2482.99 for 787kgs from Messrs Ewing, Dumbretton, Annan selling to A & D Meats and Bowland Foods, Preston.  Parthenais crosses to £2223.18 for 716kg from East Barr Farming, Port William, Newton Stewart.  Simmental crosses to £1997.67 for 667kgs from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle and to £1962.68 for 793kg Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Currie, Skewbridge, Dumfries.  Top overall pence per kilo of 329.5p for 846kgs for the aforementioned British Blue from Gracies Farm, and 325.0p for their other.  Parthenais from East Barr Farming to 316.5p for 593kgs.  Limousins to 315.5p for 787kgs from Messrs Ewing, Dumbretton,

PRIME CATTLE: A fantastic entry of 70 prime Steers and Heifers forward at Borderway’s weekly primestock sale.  More quality was seen throughout and trade certainly no easier as more custom around the ringside then ever seen before.  Topping the day’s trading was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton weighing 762kgs and selling to £2343.15 to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Next best was £2285.42 for 729kgs from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston.  Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle sold their best to £2242.89 for 702kg to Mr Eric Hall.  Charolais cross steers from Messrs Bell, Hoddomtown, Lockerbie achieving £2197.40 for 767kgs to Mr Eric Hall.  Messrs Cape, Kirkland Guards, Wigton sold a 676kgs to £1929.98 to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Top pence per kilo of 319.5p for 702kgs Limousin cross from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle to Mr Eric Hall.

Heifers peaked at £2062.55 for a 710kg Limousin from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle to Pioneer Foods.  Messrs Airey, The Close, Carlisle to £2012.29 for 646kg to A & D Meats.  Messrs Miller, High Aketon, Wigton sold a tremendous run of Limousin cross heifers and peaked at £1878.86 for 579kgs selling to R & JP Mulholland, Great Orton, Carlisle and £1853.10 for 580kg from the same home, their run of cattle averaged £1791.15, 317.21ppk for 564kg for six.  A 580kg Charolais cross from Messrs Bell, Hallbankgate, Brampton to £1882.10 for 580kgs selling to Steven Wilson, Butchers Shops, Corby Hill and Brampton

CAST COWS: An increased entry of 360 cast cows and stock bulls was forward with a keen ring side of buyers ensuring a sharper trade. Mr Neil Slack, Plumtree House sold the top priced Limousin x cow for 852kg at 249.5p totalling £2125 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Watson & Co, Bowsden Moor Farm’s run of cows topped at 880kg at 229.5p totalling £2019 for a Limousin and 905kg at 207.5p totalling £1877 for a Charolais bought by Will Barker and Phillip Bowes. Messrs Thompson, Townfoot’s run of Limousin cows and heifers topped at 593kg at 291.5kg at £1728 and 676kg at 291.5p totalling £1970 and 648kg at 277.5p totalling £1798 purchased by Will Barker and Sean McGimpsey (x2). Messrs Norman, Little Orton Farm sold a Limousin cow for 828kg at 237.5p totalling £1966 to Owain Llyr. Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk sold the top priced Simmental x cow for 836kg at 233.58p totalling £1952 to Micheal Helliwell. Messrs Byers, Whitehills Farm sold a Limousin x heifer for 621kg at 263.5p totalling £1694 to Sean McGimpsey. 228 dairy cast cows were forward with a sharp lift in trade again this week. Topping the dairy bred heifers today. Messrs Carruthers, Glenzierfoot Farm sold the top priced Fleckvieh heifer for 642kg at 257.5p totalling £1653 to Les Fell. Messrs Haston & Son, Swordwellrigg Farm sold Montbelairde x heifer for 624kg at 249.5p totalling £1556 and 602kg at 243.5p totalling £1465 bought by Alan Jarvis and Capper Farming. Messrs Wilson, Wood Farm sold the top priced Holstein x heifer for 726kg at 227.5p totalling £1651 to Les Fell. Prime Sheep: A great entry of 2629 prime hoggs were accompanied by 516 local farmers cast ewes all classes sold exceptionally week with weight and meat all in demand. Hoggs from 30kg swales to 60kg continentals all saw strong bidding ringside with further orders added to our strong offering. Bruce Findlay, Easter Balgillo made the trip south from Dundee with a marvelous run of meated hoggs, he sold his best Beltex to a sale leading £190 purchased by Lancashire Direct Halal Ltd, Blackburnwith 44kg hoggs to £185 to Bowland Foods Ltd, Preston. Heavy Texel and Mule Hoggs sold to £186 for a pen of 6 from Messrs Donald, The Beeches purchased by Mutch Meats Ltd, Oxford. Messrs Story, Woodhead sold a great run of Dutch lambs with five pens all breaking the £4 per kilo barrier to a sale topping 424p for 42kgs hoggs to Bowland foods Ltd. Horned lams topped at 293p for 47kg Blackies for Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown which grossed £138 selling to Michael Homax, Milnthorpe. At the other end of the weigh scale a pen of 28kg swales sold to £74 per head proving the trade and orders available here in Borderway.
