Borderway Monthly Dairy Day

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE BORDERWAY DAIRY TEAM

32 ANIMALS SELL FOR OR MORE THAN £2000 WITH 3 TOPPING AT £2400

The first Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale of 2021 had a super offering of freshly calved cows and heifers consigned by many of the leading herds from the north of England and Scotland.  131 animals sold, with the Holstein heifers averaging £1927, 32 animals sold for £2000 or more with three heifers topping at £2400.

Values were down on the month by £112 for freshly calved heifers with some volume buyers able to put quality groups together for around £1850.

Balcurvie Holsteins sold 25 heifers to average £1875 and topped at £2400 for a Balcurvie Secretariat Glencova 2.  She had a special udder and was giving 35kgs and sired by All Nure Secretariat.

The Turnbull family from Monks House sold 6 outstanding heifers all with strong tops, perfect wide rumps and excellent feet and legs.  This group averaged £2133 and again topped at £2400 for Romanway Boastful Happy 2.  She was sired by Bryceholme S Boastful from a high production dam sires by Dion.

The best average went to the Ashberry herd coming to £2175 and they topped at £2400 for Ashberry Mogul Lynne.  She was bred from a Glauco dam and was giving 34kgs

The Wilson family from Woodside Farm sold 18 cows and heifers to average £1998 and topped at £2300 on several occasions. They topped the cow trade at £2300 with Coopon Sketch Kensett, she was sired by AltaSketch and was giving 59kgs.

Only one British Friesian was catalogued and sold for £2250.  Nerewater Silver Bellus was consigned by Richard Bell from near Wigton, she was sired by Nerewater Jackpot and bred from an Excellent dam who to date has produced over 70 ton lifetime.

A smaller number of Jersey cross bred and Brown Swiss cross bred cows and heifers sold and topped at £1900 for a super udder Jersey cross heifer consigned by Mr McNabney from Barsalloch Farm near Newton Stewart.
