Border Leciester In Lamb Sale

The annual Border Leicester in lamb sale was held at Carlisle on Monday where in lamb sheep were in demand with the best overall average at this sale for quite some time.

The top price of 1600gns was achieved by the first animal into the ring. This was a 2018 born ewe from D & I Walker’s Alticane flock. She was sired by Meidrum Mighty out of a homebred dam and had been scanned in lamb with triplets to Intock Boris.  The successful purchaser of this lot was RD Livestock from Market Drayton, Shropshire.

Messrs S & A Watson’s Intock flock had a successful day selling a gimmer at 1100gns then a further two for 1000gns. At 1100gns was BL34R R13, sired by Didcot Diamond and out of a daughter of the 2011 Highland Show Champion. This gimmer was scanned in lamb to Knockglass Mr Dandy and purchased by Messrs Lathangie from Glenrothes, Fife.

Their two at 1000gns were both sired by Drennan’s Dazzler and in lamb to Didcot Diamond. R29 and R19 were both purchased using the online bidding facility by Messrs Mill from Cardenden, Fife.

Messrs Mill also collected another gimmer at 1000gns in the form of Messrs Walker’s Alticane Q1 sired by Clola Cracker Jack and in lamb to Intock Boris. This ewe was out of a homebred dam that had previously bred £3300 Alticane Donald and a £2000 ewe sold at Carlisle.

The final ewe from Messrs Walker also went for 1000gns, she was again sired by Clora Cracker Jack and in lamb to Intock Boris. This successful purchaser of this one was Messrs Radford from Barnard Castle.

RN Howie & Partners were another vendor to have a successful day selling one ewe at 850gns and two gimmers at 800gns. The ewe Lyham BL1Z Q64 was sired by Lammermuir Moonshine and has been scanned in lamb with triplets to Westforth Barbarian. She was bought online by Messrs Harvey from Stoke on Trent who also bought one of the 800gns gimmers, R30, from the Lyham flock.
