Rugley & Handbank Texel Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

The final Retiral Sale of the Rugley Texel flock on behalf of Alan and Lorna Jackson was held at Carlisle on Monday followed by the reduction sale of the Handbank flock on behalf of RM & EA Payne & Son.

The Rugley animals sold incredibly well with a gimmer average of £875.73 achieved for the 72 sold and the 3 ewes averaging £682. Topping the sale at 4200gns was a gimmer (JER1909287) sired by Allanfauld Archduke and out of Beeford Warrior daughter JER1606554. This gimmer had been scanned in lamb to 9000gns Mullan Chancellor who won Champion stock ram in the Solway & Tyne Club flock competition. She was purchased by Messrs Evans from Mold, Clwyd.

At 2200gns was the gimmer 9348, sired by Rugley Best Ever who was used in the flock in 2019 before being sold at Kelso for £2600. This gimmer was out of a Roxburgh Shot Gun Willie daughter also sold in lamb to Mullan Chancellor. The successful purchaser of this lot was Messrs Elliot from Kelso who took advantage of the online bidding facility on offer.

Messrs Elliot also purchased another Rugley Best Ever daughter at 2000gns, this was JER1909283 who had been scanned in lamb with twins to Corriecravie Benchmark. This service sire had been purchased for £3600 at the NSA Builth Wells Ram Sale in 2019 and has an index that is in the top 1% of the breed.

At 1800gns was JER1909267 another Rugley Best Ever daughter scanned in lamb to Corriecravie Benchmark. She was purchased by Messrs Beaton from Falkrik who also purchased another gimmer late on in the sale for 1600gns. This was JER1909397 who was in lamb to Mullan Chancellor.

Also by the same sire and out of a Hightecs Yorick daughter was JER1909351 selling for 1500gns. She was purchased by Messrs Aiken from Wennington, Lancaster.

Two gimmers sold for 1200gns, the first of these also went off to join Messrs Beaton’s, Falkirk based flock. This was JER1909259 sired by Duhonw Atomic Bomb and scanned in lamb to Corriecravie Benchmark.

The other to sell for 1200gns was a Rugley Bonzo daughter, JER1909362, in lamb to Mullan Chancellor. She was purchased online by Messrs Price from Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

The reduction sale from the Handbank flock saw a top price of 550gns for Handbank PRH1900925 sired by Cambwell Arnie. This gimmer’s dam was a 2013 born ewe by Stonebride Stevie’s Wonder and she had been scanned in lamb with twins to Stonebridge Charlie I. The successful purchaser was Messrs Mosley from Sheffield.

Two gimmers sold for 500gns. First was PRH1900922 again sired by Cambwell Arnie and in lamb to Stonebridge Charlie I but this time out of a ewe sired by Corriecravie Union Pacific. This gimmer was purchased online by Messrs Watson from Whitehaven.

Next into the ring, PRH1900957, went for the same money and was purchased by Messrs Jackson from Ballentrae, Girvan. This gimmer also had the same sire and service sire as the previous.
