BROWNFIELD HERD TOP TWICE AT £2400

Almost 300 dairy cattle were consigned to the February Borderway Dairy Day sale comprising of freshly calved cows & heifers, dry cows, in-calf heifers and bulling heifers.  Most of the dairy breeds were represented including Holstein Friesian, Pro Cross, Ayrshire, British Friesian, Jersey and Fleckviehs.  Trade topped at £2400 on four occasions with 137 milking heifers averaging £1946.    

Agri-King sponsored this sale with the top prices going to the Mansebrae, Brownfield & Petteril herds.  The first animal to sell for £2400 was Mansebrae Dreambig Carefree who was consigned by the Watt family from Lanarkshire who were first time consignors.  She by Kings Ransom Dreambig and bred from three generations of dams all with super high production and her dam was a 70 ton lifetime producer.  This high producing group of heifers averaged £2077.

Matt Gemmell owner of the Brownfield herd in Dumfries sold five attractive heifers to average £2200 with two selling for £2400.  Brownfield Applejax Elfeda and Brownfield Mercedes Agnes were the two high sellers both producing over 40kgs.

The last milking heifer to sell was Petteril Adorable Carol who was consigned by the Morley’s from Petteril Bank Farm near Carlisle.  She was the fourth animal to sell for the joint top price of the day selling for £2400.  Her dam was a King Doc daughter that gave over 15000kgs as a three year old.

The Coppside herd owned by the Jackson’s from Guillyhill Farm, Dumfries sold ten well bred cows and heifers to average £2000 and topped at £2350 for Coppside Artisan Weeber Red.  She was a very classy Red & White heifer giving 40kgs and bred from an Excellent dam with over 60 ton lifetime.

The third sale to disperse the ESK pedigree Holstein Friesian herd owned by Robert Byers from Canonbie topped at £2300 for Esk Brilliant Bety.  She was sired by Inch Brilliant and was bred from a DG Charley dam.

The Dent family from Bridge End Farm in Kirby Thore sold 12 Pro Cross heifers to average £1968 and topped at £2300 for a Danish Red heifer sired by Vimo.

An outstanding group of Ayrshire heifers were consigned by the Stevenson family from Kirminnoch Farm near Stranraer.  They topped at £2000 for a daughter of Palmyra Power Remsberg.

In calf heifers topped at £1680 for Coppside April who was consigned by the Jackson’s from Guillyhill Farm, Dumfries. She was bred from a VG87 pointed dam and was due to the Angus bull in March.
