Borderway Calf Sale

On Wednesday 20^th January Harrison & Hetherington held its weekly sale of calves which had a large entry of 286 calves forward.

Trade for all classes of calves was on fire, topping the sale at £520 was a British Blue bull calf consigned by Messrs Elwen, Netherfield, with his tremendous run of 21 Dairy and beef sired calves averaging £438.81.

Heifers peaked at £485 for a British Blue Heifer consigned by Mr Robert McNeil, East Cottage, with his run of 3 month old calves averaging £453.75.

Native bred calves also sold exceptionally well with and Aberdeen Angus bull selling to £485, with Black and Whites selling to £300 for a Holstein Friesian.

The whole sale averaged £281 for all classes, and with 36 buyers in attendance, more calves are required weekly to satisfy demand.
