Borderway Store & Weanling Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington had forward 1072 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of 404 Store Cattle, 274 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 283 Calves, and 111 Dairy Cattle included in the Border and Lakeland Club Sale.

STORE CATTLE – Yet another marvellous entry of 404 store cattle forward at Borderway’s weekly sale where once again trade did not disappoint with another very good sale average of £1082 per head. £1460 was top overall for a Charolais cross from Messrs Haston, Swordwellrigg, Annan. Three lots of steers achieved £1400 firstly by Messrs Wigham, Coldshields, Haltwhistle for a pen of three, Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth for Limousins and a British Blue cross from Messrs Harper, West House, Maryport. The same vendor also sold top Aberdeen Angus cross to £1370 and Herefords from Rose Farm, Cockermouth sold to £1310.

Heifers peaked at £1400 from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton with a British Blue cross. £1370 from the same vendor for two Limousin crosses and £1330 from Messrs Haston, Swordwellrigg, Annan for a Charolais cross.

Dairy bred steers peaked at £1220 for a pen of 8 Holsteins from Messrs Rudd, Grassings, Wigton and £1110 for a pen of 3 Holstein heifers from Messrs Halliday, Broathill, Lockerbie.

WEANED CATTLE: Weaned calves were once again were well bid for. Beef and Dairy bred Bulls proved very good to sell with this section topping at £1095 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Reid, Kirkburn, Lockerbie with many selling to £1000 or more.

Bullocks and heifers were also well sold, with younger grassier types in demand, selling to £975 for a pen of Limousin steers from Messrs Mattinson, Burthwaite. Heifers from the same home sold to £930 for a Limousin.
