Borderway Store and Weand Cattle Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Wednesday 27th January, Harrison & Hetherington had forward 1094 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of 490 Store Cattle, 302 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 302 Calves.

STORE CATTLE –   All classes of cattle remained a strong trade with an overall average of £1061.58 being achieved, with bullocks levelling at £1102.56 and heifers at £1041.50. A smaller number of forward bullocks were offered this week, selling to a top of £1400, achieved for a Limousin cross bullock from TB Stamper & Sons, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.

New vendors Bobby & Robert Marrs, Manor Farm, Wigton sold two exquisite Limousin heifers to £1400 a piece, to lead their section.

Native bred cattle were forward in large numbers to a top of £1360 for Aberdeen Angus bullocks from Rose Farm with Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1230 twice from Messrs Palmer, Longrigg Thorn.

Dairy bullocks to £1140 for a pen of 7 from Messrs Rudd, The Grassings, Wigton. Yearling cattle sold to £1190 for a very smart bullock from Messrs Coulthard, Fellside, Wigton.

WEANED CATTLE: A large show of 302 weaned cattle were forward to a large demand from buyers, which ensured that all classes sold sharper on the week.

All classes of bulls were in great demand, with Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside selling an 11 month old Limousin for £1200. Messrs Lee & Son, Agars Hill Farm sold a Limousin cross bull for £1140. Messrs Carlyle Slealands Burn sold a 9 month old Limousin cross bull for £1120. Messrs Tinning & Son, Mossband House run of bulls topped at £1080 for a 10 month old Limousin cross. Messrs Mallinson The Hill sold 3 8 month old Limosuin cross bulls for £1075, and 3 for £1055.  Messrs Dixon & Chappelhow, Westfield House bulls topped at £1065.Messrs Mattinson & Son, Burthwaite run of 9 and 10 moth old Limousin bullocks sold for £970 for 3. Messrs Houldey, Kirtleton House 8 month old Simmental cross bulls topped at £930. Messrs Brown, Temple House sold the top prices Charolais cross heifer for £960. Messrs Austin, Woodcroft sold a pen of 12 Black and White bullocks for £700.
