Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 3^rd February Harrison & Hetherington had forward 1157 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 400 Store Cattle, 215 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 330 Calves and 212Dairy cattle as part of the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day .

STORE CATTLE –   Another fantastic entry of 404 strong store cattle were forward, whereby a staggering sale average of £1087.24 was achieved throughout. Trade remains exceptionally good and saw a day’s top of £1465 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Rudd, Grassings Farm, Wigton. Others sold to £1450 and £1400 for Limousins from Messrs Robinson, Pelutho Park, Wigton. Charolais sold to £1400 for a pen of three from Messrs Haston, Swordwellrigg, Annan and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1390 and £180 from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.

Heifer were once again easily sold with a day’s top of £1350 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from Messrs Harper, West House, Maryport. British Blues to £1310 from Messrs Robinson, Rothwell Farm, Milnthorpe and Limousin crosses to £1290 from Messrs Johnstone, Low Flow, Wigton.

Dairy bred steers very easily sold, and sold to £1290 for a Montbeliarde from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna and Holsteins to £1090 for a pen of three from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.

WEANED CATTLE: A smaller show of stirks was on offer with some great runs of cattle however less buyers around the ring resulting in trade bring slightly less on the week.

Mr Steven Illingworth, Howgillside sold a Limousin bull for £1100. Messrs Richardson, Whitehead Brow’s run of 11-month-old Limousin x bulls topped at £1090 and £1085. Messrs Reid, Kirkburn Farm’s bulls topped at £1080(x2) for 10- and 11-month-old bulls.

Messrs Mallinson, The Hill’s run of 9- and 10-month old Limousin x heifers topped at £1010, £985(3) and £980(x2). Messrs Oliver, Cawfield’s run of 10-month-old Limousin x heifers topped at £990 and £960 for a Limousin x bullock.
