Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 4,768 sheep were forward consisting of 3,561 prime hoggs and 1207 cast sheep.

The sale topped at £222 on two separate occasions firstly for a pen of five 63kg Texel hogg from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Darlington, and also for a pair of 75kg Texel cross hoggs from Messrs Patchett, West Summersides, Ripon.

The 500p/kg mark was also reached on two separate occasions for a 38kg Beltex cross hogg which made £190 from Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon and also for a 40kg Beltex cross hogg which made £200 from Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree Farm, Harrogate.

This home also sold a pen of four 38kg hoggs to make £187.50 (493.4p/kg) two pens of fifteen and fourteen 40kg at £194.50 (486.3p/kg), a pen of twelve 39kg at £187.50 (480.8p/kg) , a pen of six 41kg at £195 (475.6p/kg) a pen of thirteen 41kg at £194.50 (474.4p/kg) and a pen of seven 41kg at £190 (463.4p/kg).

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of six 41kg hoggs to make £190 (463.4p/kg), with a pen of eight 42kg making £191, and a pen of eight 38kg making £185 (487p/kg).

Messrs Simpson, Highsclae Farm, Wigglesworth sold a pen of ten 38kg hoggs to make £185.50 (488.2p/kg) with another pen of fifteen 38kg making £183 (481.6p/kg) and a pen fo fifteen 37kg making £177 (478.4p/kg).

Heavy hoggs were a flying trade once again with Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree Farm selling 54kg to £212, two pens of 52kg at £200 and 50kg to £195.

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats sold 49kg to £210, 54kg to £205, and a pens of 52kg to £204, with 57kg Blue Texel hoggs making £193 also from this home.

Messrs Teward, Fair View Farm sold 71kg and 68kg Texel hoggs to £212.

Messrs Thompson, Grove House Farm, Darlington sold 67kg to £212, and 71kg to £209 and £203.

Messrs Baines, New Middop, Gisburn sold 62kg Texel cross hoggs to £210.

Messrs Elliott, Espland House, Penrith sold a pen of four 62 Texel hoggs at £206.

Messrs Patchett, West Summersides, Ripon sold a pen of twenty 61kg Texel cross Mule hoggs to make a staggering £204 with another pen of nineteen 61kg making £203, a pen of twenty 59kg at £199 and a pen of twenty 58kg at £193.

The consignment of 335 Texel cross mule hoggs from Messrs Patchett sold to average 54kg £184.33 (341.4p/kg).

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £200 for 71kg from Riverside Farming, Penrith, with this home also selling a pen of eighteen 55kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £185 (336.4pkg).

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown sold 57kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £192, and a pen of seven 53kg at £179.

Suffolk cross hoggs also topped at 380.4p/kg for a pen of 46kg which made £175 from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, with this home also selling a pen of thirteen 44kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £162 (368.2p/kg) and a pen of thirteen 50kg Suffolk hoggs at £174, and a pen of five 54kg at £179.

Messrs Beresford, Angerton Hall Farm, Kirkby in Furness sold a pen of seven 51kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £178.

Mule hoggs topped at £173 for a pen of seven 56kg from Riverside Farming, Penrith.

Messrs Huck, Sowerthwaite Farm, Austwick sold a pen of twenty-one 57kg Mules to make £170 with another pen of twenty 55kg Mule making £169 also from this home.

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton sold a pen of twenty-one 56kg Mules to make £169.

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of five 50kg Mules to make £162.50 (325p/kg).

Mules also topped at 337.8p/kg for a pen of 45kg which made £152 from Messrs Allison, Muirburn, Biggar.

Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby sold a pen of five 44kg Mules to make £148 (336.4p/kg)

Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap sold a pen of six 46kg Mules to make £149.50 (325p/kg).

Hayllar Farms, Brough sold ap en of sixteen 43kg Mules to make £138.50 (322.1p/kg)

Blackfaced hoggs topped at £165 for apen of thirty 51kg hoggs from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown.

Another pen of twenty-five 46kg Blackfaced hoggs sold to make £160.50, two pens of twenty-five 46kg at £160, a pen of twenty-seven 45kg kg at £158.50 (352p/kg) and a oen of twenty-five 44kg at £157.50 (358p/kg).

The consignment of 321 buperbly finished Blackfaced hoggs from Smalmstown sold to average 46kg £160.01 (346.3p/kg).

Hill cheviot hoggs topped at £160.50 for a pen of ten 47kg hoggs from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown.

Messrs Edmondson, Low Wood House sold a pen of twenty-five 43kg hill cheviot hoggs to make £156 (362.8p/kg).

A SQQ average of 363.5p/kg and an overall average of 353p/kg and £158.62 was achieved for 3561 hoggs which includes over 1100 horned and Mule hoggs.

Cast sheep topped at £308 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield.

This home also sold a pen of seven Beltex cross ewes to make £255, two pairs of Texel cross ewes at £250 and £225, and a pair of Beltex cross ewes at £228.

The twenty-two ewes from this home sold to average £224.77.

Hill cheviot ewes sold to £171 for a pen of four from Riverside Farming, Penrith.

Mule ewes sold to £134 twice from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby and also from Messrs Wharton, Town Head Farm, Old Tebay.

Rough fell ewes topped at £129 from Messrs Wilson, Wath Farm, Newbiggin on Lune.

Swaledale ewes topped at £114 for a pair from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm with a pen of four at £99 also from Whitewall Farm.

Messrs Akrigg, Manor House Farm, Skipton sold a pen of Swaledale ewes to make £102 and another pen of twenty-one at £94.

Messrs Brown, Asby Hall, Great Asby sold a pen of ten Swaledale ewes to make £102.
