WREAYWOOD TOPS WITH 50 KILO COW

22 ANIMALS SELL FOR OR MORE THAN £2000

The February Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale saw just over 200 dairy cattle traded with prices topping at £2450 and 22 animals selling for or more than £2000.  The overall average for recently calved heifers was slightly down on the month to average £1843 although it is worth noting that compared to February 2019 the average is up by almost £400.

Buyers from across the UK attended the sale either in person or online with 15 counties recoded on the buyers list.  The diversity on offer was extensive from high producing Holstein cows to robust grazing cross bred animals and demand remains high for all categories.

The Wilson family from Woodside Farm sold 15 cows and heifers to average £1941 and topped the days trading at £2450 for an outstanding cow recently calved in her second.  Wreaywood Defender Sietskie was sired by Mogul Defender and was giving 50kgs.

Lot 105 – £2450

Balcurvie Holsteins sold 19 heifers to average £1941 and topped at £2400 for a Wilder Hiro daughter giving 35kgs.  Another special uddered from this home sired by All Nure Secretariat sold for £2350.

Mr Moon from West Thornber Farm sold a very milky group of heifers and topped at £2200 for a Piston daughter giving 36kgs

Paul Harrison from Brekney Hill Farm sold three heifers to average £1966 and topped at £2150 for a All Nure Secretariat heifer giving 36kgs

The Lisnabank Holstein herd sold 5 heifers topping at £2080 to average £1924.  They topped with Liscabank Trophy Charity, an eye-catching animal with an attractive mammary.

A smaller number of Jersey cross bred and Ayrshire cross bred cows and heifers sold and topped at £1950 for a world class udder Ho-Jo consigned by the Sloan family from Darnlaw Farm.

The Jamison family from East Nethershields Farm commenced the dispersal of their dairy herd by offering 63 of the most recently calved cows and heifers.  This robust herd of mainly Montbeliarde and British Friesian cross topped at £1800 on two occasions for two young cows giving almost 50kgs.

In calf heifers remain excellent value for money with two heifers topping at £1500 to average £1407.
