Borderway March Prize show and Sale of Suckled Calves

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

Borderway took store cattle sales to a new stratosphere at their anxiously awaited March Special sale of Continental cross store cattle. The 726 head forward which averaged under a year old attained a sale average of £1702.30, levels never seen before.

The Friday night show was kindly sponsored by AW Jenkinson, Tithebarn and Tynedale Agriculture and saw over 100 head put before our judge Mr Hugh Dunlop to cast his expert eye over.

Claiming the championship was Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry with their Limousin cross bullock, he sold for a centre record of Saturday morning of £10,000 to Mr Blair Dufton, Aberdeen.

The Reserve Champion was given to the Champion heifer from Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown, a Limousin selling to £3800 to Messrs Sedgwick, Co Durham.

Topping the sale was a Limousin heifer from Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, she won 1st prize in her class and sold to £12,000 to Messrs Alford, Devon.

The prize winning heifers sold to average £5062.50, with bullocks levelling to £3028.57.

Away from the glitz and glamour of the show potentials, the commercial cattle served up what was described by one onlooker as a ‘firework display’, pen after pen sailed over £1700 with 113 cattle selling over £1800 to a packed ringside of buyers who had travelled from all corners of the UK to attend the premier cattle sale in the land.
