Borderway Store & Weanling Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 10th February Harrison & Hetherington had forward 797 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 419 Store Cattle, 154 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 224 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale 419 store cattle were forward.  The ring at Carlisle continues to provide the goods with  new vendors joining the party and a ring side of buyers eager for cattle that combinates to deliver the results week after week.  All cattle saw a lift on the week with one new vendor seeing black and white bullocks achieve over £100 more than his previous outlet.  Topping the sale today was a sensational British Blue x bullock consigned by Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan for £1500. Heifers sold to £1470 for an absolute beauty from J W Slack & Sons, Newby Farm, Carlisle.

Native cattle were an excellent trade again with Aberdeen Angus bullocks leading the way recording an average of £1239.20 to a top of £1375 from TB Stamper & Son, Rose Farm, Cockermouth and heifers to £1365 from G Smith, Campingholm, Gretna.   Dairy bullocks sold to £1290 from Montbelairdes from Messrs Haston & Son, Swordwellrigg Farm,

WEANED CATTLE: A small show of 154 weaned calves were on offer with an outstanding show of cattle presented to an increased ring side of buyers resulting in a flying trade.

Messrs Johnstone & Son, Orton Hall run of bulls topped at £1130 for a 10 month old Limousin x and £1010 for two 10 month old Angus bulls.  Messrs Todd & Son, The Craggs sold a 9 month old Limousin x bull for £1100 and an 8 month old Limousin x for £1060.  Messrs Inman, Kilnknowe sold a Limousin x bull for £1080.  In the heifer section Messrs Pinguey of High House topped at £1030 with a British Blue.  Two Limousin x bullocks from Messrs Cowx & Son, Hudscales sold for £1000 at 10 months of age.
