ESK SHILLING VOILET TOPS AT £2550
Just over 200 dairy cattle were consigned to the March Borderway Dairy Day sale comprising of freshly calved cows & heifers, in-calf heifers and bulling heifers. Several outstanding consignments were forward including a well bred group of Jersey heifers that averaged £1831. Trade topped at £2550 for a second lactation cow with 117 milking heifers averaging £1787.
Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top prices going to Esk Shilling Violet who was consigned by Robert Byers from Canonbie. She was part of the Esk dispersal sale with this sale being the fourth sale to disperse this fine Holstein Friesian herd. She was sired by DG Shilling and bred from a Jeeves dam.
Topping the heifers at £2350 was Nydie Altasim Joan was consigned by the Wilson family from Clackmae Farm in Berwickshire. She was sired by Progenesis Altasim, her dam was an outstanding production cow with all her lactations over 11,000kgs.
The Wreaywood herd from Woodside Farm near Carlisle sold 18 cows and heifers topping at £2300 for a milking heifers sired by Bomaz Vader giving 43kgs.
The last milking cow to sell was Romany Silver Present who was consigned by the Turnball family from Penrith. She was fresh in her second and was giving 42kgs her dam gave over 12,000kgs as a six year old.
Cowhill Trust sold 21 Pedigree Jerseys from their prize winning Kerricks herd in Dumfries topping at £2200 to average £1831. Topping this excellent group was Kerrick Video Cara, sired by Video and bred from a Keystone dam that gave over 8000kgs at 6%bf and 4%p in her second lactation.
British Friesians topped at £1850 twice. The first was from the Queenscairn herd of the Shanks from near Kelso with Queenscairn Jingle Chris and the second was a second laction cow from the Neill family from Thornington Farm in Northumberland.
The Coppside herd owned by the Jackson’s from Guillyhill Farm, Dumfries sold ten In calf heifers topping at £1600 for Coppside Amelia, she was bred from an EX91 pointed dam and was due to the Angus bull in April.
The fourth sale to disperse the ESK pedigree Holstein Friesian herd owned by Robert Byers from Canonbie included 10 bulling heifers that topped at £1200 on three occasions to average £1111
