Kirkby Stephen SSBA In Lamb Ewe Sale

On Wednesday evening Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held the Annual Prize Sale of Individual Crowned Swaledale Ewes, Shearlings and Gimmer Hoggs on behalf of the Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association at Kirkby Stephen Mart.

Topping the sale at £4,700 was lot 13 a Ewbank sired gimmer shearling which was inlamb to Naby ram and was consigned by Messrs Collinson, Billing Shield, Eastgate with the successful purchaser being Messrs Pritchard, Rochester.

£4700 – I Collinson

Next selling for £4400 was lot 22 a 2 shear sired by Bull & Cave and inlamb to a homebred ram from Messrs Sowerby, Oakbank Farm, Barras which sold to Messrs Haughey, Ballymena.

£4400 – PE&KA Sowerby

The £3200 mark was reached on three different occasions.

Firstly for lot 9 a three shear sired by a homebred ram and inlamb to a Stoneyhill ram from Messrs Humble, Weardale with Messrs Pritchard making this his second purchase on the night.

£3200 – Dan Humble

Messrs Collinson, Billing Shield Farm, Eastgate was next to make £3200 this time for lot 12 a gimmer shearling sired by a Bull & Cave ram, and inlamb to a Rukin ram.

£3200 – I Collinson

Next selling for £3200 was lot 21 a 2 shear from Messrs Sowerby, Oakbank which was sired by Bull & Cave and inlamb to a homebred ram with Messrs Haughey Northern Ireland being the purchaser.

£3200 – PE&KA Sowerby

Out with the individual sheep two consignments of ewes sold in lots were offered by Messrs Sowerby, Oakbank and Messrs Bland, Crowden House Farm.

Messrs Sowerby sold a pair of 2 shear ewes to make £900 each selling to G Coates, Catterick.

Messrs Bland sold a pair of gimmer hoggs for £600 each selling to Messrs Haughey, Northern Ireland.

Trade was very strong particularly for good quality and well made strong sheep.

The individual females sold to average a fantastic £1900.

Gimmer Shearlings averaged £2085.71 (+£953.58 on the year)

Ewes averaged £1844.44 (+£1010.35 on the year)

Gimmer Shearlings: £4700, £3200 £800 Billing Shield Farm; £2200 Cowshill Bridge View; £1500 Oakbank Farm; £1200, £1000 Bail Hill; £700 Crowden House.

Ewes: £4400, £3200, £1000, £900 Oakbank Farm; £3200 Cowshill Bridge View; £2000, £1800 Valley Farm; £600 How Burn; £500(2) Crowden House Farm.

Gimmer Hoggs: £600 Crowden House:
