Middleton-In-Teesdale Special Show & Sale of Store Cattle

Middleton-in-Teesdale, Station Road, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Co Durham, DL12 0PJ

On Tuesday 16th February Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held its annual special sale of store cattle within Middleton-In-Teesdale Mart.

The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Philip Holden rural and judging was placed in the capable hands of Mr Andrew Richardson, Appleby. The Champion and Reserve tickets were both awarded to British Blue cross heifers consigned by noted local show cattle producers JC & J White, Rigg Farm.

The Champion was a very stylish British Blue bred heifer, sired by the registered bull Oak Tree Gowery, and out of a purebred Limousin cow, she attracted a lot of interest both from show enthusiasts and breeders alike. After a frantic flurry of bidding she sold for £4800, this setting a new Mart record selling to Mr David Jarman, Brow Top who intends to keep her as a breeding animal.

The Reserve again a super stylish black British Blue bred heifer of similar parentage to the Champion sold for the day’s second highest price of £2600 to Mr Will Burden, Northamptonshire.

Out with the show a smaller entry on the year of 247 head were on offer, the quality forward would be the envy of any Auction Mart in the country with new buyers taken aback by the standard of cattle in Middleton. This transpired into a magical trade for all classes, with the majority of cattle forward being 6-10m old recording an overall average of £1064 (+£80 on the year), with bullocks regularly selling between £1100-£1300 and the smartest heifers achieving £1400 and far beyond with ease.

The company would like to extend its thanks to all who supported this event.
